V8S Rebuild begins!
Discussion
I will have to take pic to show you - I have an engine (& gearbox) stand but I made a great big drip tray that goes underneath out of one of those blue shell shaped kids sandpits / paddling pools.
You can then use degreaser by the bucketload and it all gets caught in the tray.
It did look like this
Now
The sump gasket was leaking but it gets whipped down the transmission tunnel by the airflow.

Stunning work so far, and fantastic documentation for a new owner (not that I think you will sell anytime soon).
Whats the plan with the engine, I remember a "my camshafts made of cheese" thread so I assume you have a new one, what sort of spec do you think you are going for.
ps reply must contain digits and reference to BHP otherwise it will be totally useless. If you are just planning on rebuilding to standard spec just lie to me and say it will be a 300bhp fire breathing monster
pps surely you are up to a bit of home done port and polishing Chris?

I'm going to tidy up the ports a bit, but otherwise it wil be a fairly standard rebuild with a fast road cam (cam undecided as yet - but with a standard engine you can't go too mental).
My view is if you're in pursuit of big horsey numbers then a bigger engine would be they way to go initially - or change the car for a 4.6 / 5.0 griff/chim. I am not going to do that anytime soon though.
As for horsey numbers as long as I get it over the 200 I'll be happy - the reality is the 3.9 lump was never anywhere near the 240bhp TVR claimed.

Hi Chris
When I bought my V8S back in 2001 it was just 5,000 miles into a fully rebuilt engine. It was fitted with Kent 214 cam and Griffith 400 spec heads. The cam does make the car a bit lumpy low in the rev range, especially on cold winter mornings, when it can hesitate at pick-up. It's not really an issue, just needs a bit of clutch feather to help it along. Once warm it's fine, but it has never favoured tricking along at 1500rpm. When you put your foot down the pick-up from 2,5000 - 5,000 dispells any shadow of doubt. At a rolling road session a couple of years ago it max 220bhp with a torque figure of 221.0 lbft. It out performed a number of 4.5ltr TVRs. Mind you I also have an earlier rolling road figure which shows max figure of 279bhp.
