having cleaned up the chassis and POR15'd it with their dark grey, I want to overcoat in a paint close to the original light grey powdercoat.

what have you guys used? or what have you used if not light grey? wishbones are red so don't really want the chassis red too, and black looks a bit bland somehow

Cheers

I thought all the chassis's came from the factory in red? I'd always assumed that the black ones I'd seen were later coats of other products.

My is still its original red just the same as the wishbones (and tank cradle etc..)

I don't think it matters what colour it is as long as it's well coated.

I think you can get epoxy mastic in grey, I thought por15 was clear a bit like wd40 I was going to use it as a protective top coat and in the electrics

progress on old thread...

As original, mine came from the factory in a light grey powdercoat which was down to TVRs usual standards of adhesion..., hence needing to be re-done. I'm not a fan of powdercoating on my racers chassis's as it cant be touched up when the chassis grounds out, hence using a chassis paint instead.

Having used POR15 and Dinitrol silver grey metal primer paint on the TVR chassis (both excellent, POR15 hard as hell, dinitrol covers beautifully) i couldn't find a decent grey to match in a chassis paint (dinitrol, POR or epoxy) so I painted part of the chassis red to test and really didn't like it, dare I say looked a bit 'chavvy' so went for overcoating in chassis black. Really pleased with the results, prefer the black to red, tough as old boots, should last another 25 years :-)
pics of progress to follow in a mo, awaiting fitment of replacement VHT painted stainless manifolds and downpipes, ready for new sports exhaust, and rest of rebuild :-)

with dinitrol silver grey primer

you can see the red bit in case I changed my mind--now painted over black

Mine appears to have grey as the original chassis coating. But planning red chassis paint, as for me it contrasts well with the dark green paintwork and the silver red and black bits and pieces. ( brake claipers, hoses etc )

apologies if I offended the Red fashionistas biggrin im sure they are all lovely really ;-)

before I bought my S2 nearly 10 years ago, I looked at a few and spotted a couple with red chassis and assumed it was a special request, rather than std.

it must just be me, but its a bit like coloured brake drums, they just look a bit 'Halfords' or kit car. I had intended on doing the underbonnet chassis red and the bits seen from outside such as outriggers etc black (red outriggers under a pearl car looks crap!), but went black in the end.

It’s a TVR and they were all different so you can have it any colour you want. I agree, red wouldn’t have looked good under pearl white. One of the nicest combos I’ve seen is silver under a dark blue body.
