Hi,

I am new to the world of TVR ownership, having just got a V6 S3 a few days ago.

The car came with just one set of keys. I have already got a spare key cut for the car. The metal key for the glove box is a large square fob, with a barrel at the end. There is a number stamped inside the barrel, and the name southco on the fob. The lock appears to work well, but I would like a spare key for the glove box.

I have already checked there is not a spare in the little pocket beneath the steering wheel.

I had a quick look on the southco.com site, but did not see anything that matched what I have.

Does anyone out there know where I can get a spare key?

I am sure this will be the first of many questions.....

Thanks in advance of any replies.

Have been in touch with Simon and have arranged to pay via paypal. I assume that if I add a bit to the sticker price that any extra goes to the charity?

It is a standard key which is sold by caravan dealers, made by Southco. Used to be used on gas bottle lockers years ago. There is only one pattern - any key will fit any Southco lock. About £3.50 or less.

I don't think I have a Southco key. The caravan dealers say that a Southco key is round, whereas mine is bladed.

I think I'll just buy a new lock and keys and be done with it.

Thanks for the tips,
Steve

RS Components sell a range of camlocks similar to THIS

These work with a conventional key which is unlikely to wear out (I’m now on my 3rd Southcrap key).

Before I buy one and start hacking at it has anyone else tried this mod?

As a follow up to the above here are the measurements of the existing lock.

None of the ones listed in the RS catalogue match but there must be something out there.

Are they genuine "Southco" keys you are getting?

We use these locks at work and originally were supplied Southco keys which were made from "proper" metal, we are now getting keys made by Emka from a kind or cast zinc type of metal (bit like Dinky toys are made from?) and they don't last too long in day to day use.
