Hi Everyone
Having been a member of PH for over 12 months and having only just found out about the forum I must be a bit slow, unlike my S4 that goes faster than a whippet with his dangly bits on fire and it sounds alot louder too
I must ask a quetion and please go easy on me if its an old topic but one of my tyres is getting near to changing and as my car will be getting its toes wet (used pretty much daily)any recommendations on the best make to get.

Err, strange username you have there. Ted is something awry?

I always liked the Brigestone RE720s on my S3 come wet or dry, found them very stable and progressive.

Thanks for the info, I must admit I been very lucky with the S4 it's deep purple in colour and in great condition and have spent the last 12Months with a grin on my face that get bigger every time I drive it.
Please count me in for the raffle I thought I may have been to late when I read the other threads.
Cheers

I would also endorse the RE 720's - great in the wet & dry - you should be able to get them for around £70 a corner fitted & balanced.

Glad you like it, I fell for it the second I saw it. Even before the engine was started I was already signing on the dotted line

o: not sure about your use of the present tense there Mike, are you saying they were great on the S2 or are you saying they are great on the V8S .
Only mentioning it AFAIK the RE720's are a VR tyre, the V8 requires ZR's .
The only bridgestones ZR's available(sometimes ) are still the old RE71's in the original 60 profile .

BTW only ever heard good news about the 720's as a road tyre.

RE720's everytime. They are essential to get the best out of the overall setup.

I have RE720's on the rear and RE71's on the front, AFAIK the current law only requires Z rated tyres if the top speed is 150mph or over. As the V8S falls just below this at 147mph the V rated tyres suffice as they cover UPTO 150mph! In Any event the law doesnt require you to maintain the original rating of tyre unless you intend to travel at the top speed, ie on a track or abroad!

The RE720's give better grip and are the only Bridgestone 60 series tyre left, they no longer make the RE71, the RE720 replaced them!

Agree with what you are saying about speeds ratings, however I understood it to be little more complicated than that. I understand it to be more related to the cars ability to put down the power and torque, which AFIAK seriously stresses the VR's regardless of actual road speed.
Are you sure RE71's are not available anymore sure I've seen them on some sites recently, might even have ben Bridgestones home site come to think of it.

Mike i would inform your insurance company, probably wont affect the premium, but god forbid you have a prang and they might try to wriggle out of paying as the tyres are non standard rating for the V8

I'd heard this too, and cars that give more stress to particular tyres, such as a lightweight V8 or high power FWD cars need the Z or above rated tyres to ensure the tyre compound can cope with the heat build-up.

Of course the tyre-seller might just have been after more of my hard-earned!
