Responses to the other "meet" thread on Sunday 1st May showed that some of us already have plans to go away over the bank holiday weekend and can't make this, so.......

I propose that we meet in the huge Asda car park in the centre of Canterbury (Sturry Rd, Canterbury) at 10am on Sunday 8th May. No speed ramps, it's easy to find and there are plenty of filling stations nearby.

We can have a chat for half hour or so and then move off through Canterbury and up the A299 (?) towards Faversham (through a tunnel ) and then back down to Whitstable area for a pie and a pint (massive meals at a good price in The Hungry Horse) and a decent car park.

I can make arrangements with both the meeting place and with the pub.

Shall we also post in general TVR stuff and get a few more peeps along?

How does that sound?

Centre of Canterbury! You're mad!

Just be careful that Asda don't get too arsey about loads of cars in their car park, I did this once with a Triumph run at Tescos. They went ballistic when 50 Triumphs turned up and brought the whole car park to a standstill, but I had a good come back as I was running a treasure hunt so they sold 50 packets of Tomato flavoured chrisps. ;yes;

Would the Safeways/Halfords/Mothercare Wincheap car park be a better idea? Could still traul through the town, what's the regs on using the high street on a Sun? I remember you used to have vehicular access on a Sun but not sure any more.

But having said that, I'll be there in either the Chimaera or a Cerbera depending on whether I can get one by then.

Good point, I'll let them know we are meeting at the far side of the car park where it is usually quiet

I'll express how happy we'll all be to buy food, refreshments and fuel whilst we are there

Hi folks,

OK, Asda car park may pose a problem ...so I suggest we meet in the Halfords/Safeway/Mothercare/+ others car park at the Wincheap Retail Park in Canterbury.

It's located at the Ashford side of Canterbury.

The Halfords end of the car park is usually quieter, so if we head for Halfords we shouldn't have a problem parking. A link to a map can be found below and you can "zoom out" further if you are not too sure of the area.

www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=613777&y=156967&z=0&sv=CT1+3TQ&st=2&pc=CT1+3TQ&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

A reasonable time would be 12pm (it's a bit quieter around lunchtime) and we can stay for 30 minutes and then head off down the A2 towards Dover and along the A 256 (nice road) and through Sandwich town and then out towards Ramsgate/Margate and off up towards Faversham, through the A299 tunnel and then back down the A299, turn off through Herne Bay and drive through the town to a pub called the Hungry Horse further up the road in Whitstable (they have a decent size car park) by which time the lunchtime rush should be over and we can get in to eat and drink. Should we find the pub is still too full we can rumble off down the road and lanes to the Punch Tavern at Herne who have a pretty big car park and decent food too.

Looking forward to seeing you all

Hi Mark,

Yes, they're along the seafront aren't they, I always avoid that and it's not a road that you can find your way onto by mistake so we should all be OK.

I know the roads well and I'm happy to lead a safe route if nobody else wants to.

Cheers,
K

Hi Chris,

Don't worry mate, you'll be fine.

Just head in the direction signposted "Ashford" and you'll find the retail park (it's at the A2 junction and traffic lights) on the A28.

If you've just come from Ashford direction, just look out for the retail park at Wincheap on your left as you drive into Canterbury (at the A2 junction and traffic lights) on the A28.

Look out generally for Wincheap Park and Ride and that's the same place.
