Discussion
Dear All
Any ideas out there on where to buy a new roof and fitting - from what Ive read it seems this is not an esay task - please can you advise and maybe ideas on cost ?
Instetad of the targa panels would the roof panel from a Chimaera or Griffith fit as an alternative ?
Thanks very much

If you need a new roof panel... TVR are the peolple . Around £600. It will then need to be recovered and this with a roof is betwen £400-600. So I hope you still have the roof panel. And no the Griff/Chimaera ones don't fit. Even if they did they are more expensive....

Thanks for your message. I still have the roof and its in good condition its just that it it does not fit quite so well on the passenger side to the bodywork itself.
Do you know anyone who can refit it. The seals on edge of the hoop section are split as they make contact with the bodywork so rain runs down on to the sills when driving in the wet
My panles are also OK just that id like to replace the rubber seals on them - who would you recommend.
Id appreciate your advice - Laurence

Moose,
I've had work done on my S2 roof - panels recovered when I had the car and new seals around the screen area - all done via David Gerald in Inkberrow - a TVR dealer but not for new cars. I think he sends it somewhere, rather than does it on site, but they did a good job with mine.
And it is in the Midlands!

Moose,
I replaced a lot of the rubber seals on the roof myself. Try giving peninsula a call as they will sell you all the seals in a set.

TVR owners this is the site you have all been looking for www.autohoods.co.uk based in Chessington Surrey Autohoods fitted a complete new rear section for £350! Same fabric as used by BMW/Merc, a thicker rear screen & I am told the stitching & thread used is far superior to TVR's own. Matched my existing targa top which is in good nick - but suggested an extra £95 to re cover the targa if I felt unhappy with the colour match!
I don't it's brilliant and £500 cheaper than quoted by a TVR 'Specialist' !

I take it they used your hoop section, and just fitted the material to that and fixed their material section to rear and sides ?
£350 for a new rear section fitted sounds like a good deal to me, what do others think, my rear section (oo err) material wise is not bad, but the rear screen is a bit poo, might come up better using that rear screen polish, but my main problem is the material section is not fitted properly at the back and sides.

Apparently the hoop section was replaced on this car a few years ago, I think it was't fitted properly hence these problems.
I don't know if removing the material from the hoop and trying to refit better is an option, I don't know whats involved.
At least if all else fails, a new rear section is available for £350.

My rear hoop is broken near the pivot point It looks as if the fibreglass is broken. I wonder if this can be repaired or do I need to have a new hoop fitted. I also have a small hole in the rear window maybe I should get that done at the same time. Any idea where I can get this done in NW London area. I know of Tower View but would like to get a couple of quotes.

Was the refitting a DIY job then, I'm suprised Rob didn't point it out as a major flaw, unless it was reflected in the price and knowing Rob it probably was
. I'm not totally sure but I believe there might be two different types of hoop for the S, what the difference is I do not know, but I would hazard a guess that it was a S1 - S2 transion thing, anyone actually know
. So maybe and this is a just a maybe, when it was changed it might have been the wrong one for the material fitted. But then agian I could be talking complete boll**ks..........again.

Rob DID point it out and it WAS reflected in the price, well that and the interior, Don't get me wrong the roof isn't high on my priority list, and isn't really that bad, the interior is first, but the roof IS something I'd like to get fixed eventually, just to finish the exterior looks.
As for a different hoop, that could be a possibility, Anyone else like to jump in here, SHPUB ?

it´s quite more difficult to find someone in germany to fit the roof. TVR is not very popular here. i´m thinking about doing it by myself.
do you think it´s a bad idea? i alredy demounted the old one - do you think it´s better to mount the old one again and spend a few days in England?

Podie said: Sounds about right. Just had my rear screen done by David Batty. £140+VAT for the screen fitting and about an hours labour £40+VAT.
That was just the rear screen (see through bit) I think Pwissel needs his entire rear material section replaced.
As for replacing it yourself, I don't think it would be too bad, problem is if you get it wrong you might ruin the new material.
