david, ive had the Peninsula exhaust fitted in place of the crappy old mild steel TVR jobbie. The quality is the best ive seen and its also the loudest sounding i listerned too.(its only got one very small silencing box)and went for the split system. Highly recommended. I had it fitted by the way, wanted the job done properly!

The Exhaust sounds great, less overtone and more fundamental throb.
It is also very easy to fit if you get the car high enough to get under it!!
The system is one piece from tail pipe to down pipe, three fixing bolts, two pipe clamps, one tube of exhaust paste and a crash course in contemporary anglo-saxon for when your attention (or spanner) slips and you're done.
If you are planning to do manifolds or downpipes too, expect to snap some rusty studs and use more choice phrases. More than that I cannot say. I have an S1 and the manifolds and downpipes are different to yours.

Good luck and enjoy!!

I have one too, it is without doubt the best way to maximise that awesome tiv sound ! Mine also has some skid plates fitted to the front of the silencer box which does tend to be low slung and rather vulnerable to road humps etc.

About the lens cover Question.

If you are thinking along the same lines as me, I think that if someone were to make a perspex lens cover, that covers the whole of the headlight area, ending up flush with the front lip of the bonnet, then I think the S would look fantastic (Griffithesque) and would modernise the overall look for those of us not having Griff money. If any could be fabricated I,d certainly pay a couple of hundred quid for the effect! Any other thoughts out there?

I too have a Peninsula exhaust, which on the original engine sounded great, however after fitting the Cosworth, Richard had to modify it considerably to get the noise level down to acceptable levels (it was measuring 103/4 dB at 3000 rpm - 108 dB peak!)

At the same time as the exhaust was being modified, he implemented a design change to the down pipes/front pipes to the silencer box which has improved the ground clearance considerably - it's now about 1/2" higher than the standard TVR exhaust. The modded exhaust is still very loud, but with the addition of a couple of removable discs, should just about limbo under most track noise limits.

Cheers

Graham

Btw - I would also be interested in fitting headlamp fairings a la Griffith, cos the drag at speed is huge. I suspect that I should be able to get a real 150+ if the front end was a bit more slippery

I've got 'Lite Skinz' covers on the headlights and spots, it's a thick clear self-adhesive film that has to be cut to shape. One of the spots is badly cracked after a trip through the gravel trap at Zolder (100 yards through rocks the size of your fist), but because of the protective film it is still intact and water proof.

I had the full split system fitted on my S2 (manifolds aswell) at the end of March this year ready for the Spring/Summer.

Fernies fitted the whole thing for me, they had a slight prob getting one of the manifolds on (something about jigs used..I won't pretend to understand).

Pulled up at the petrol station after picking it up and got 'nice V8, whats the cc?'.

I've noticed it does ground a lot more than the standard one. Probably the mountings rather than the tubes.

Throw your stereo away if you get a set. (Not that mine was ever used anyway)

I should be able to sort out pics/small movie if there's interest.

Been thinking about this myself... first instinct was that Tuscan Racer ones might fit... but on closer inspection I don't think they will.

Not sure what it would do for the lack of light that comes out of the headlamps...

Would look nice though

This may be sacrilege but there used to be covers offered for MGB's (a la Sebring MGC racer). Probably years ago and the supplier's gone out of business - but maybe worth look on the MG OC website or similar to try and see who the supplier was/is. I'll have a quick go when I've got a minute.
Surely getting something new can't be that expensive - custom moulded in polycarbonate.....??

As Phil C has just said, Perspex lens covers were available as an accessory for the MGB based on the Sebring style. I remember buying them and having them fitted on my "B" more years ago than I care to remember. I recall on a drive down to Spain, one flooded and filled with water and the other started to lift off at speed.
They would look good on an "S" but I think they would have to be specially made and able to be fitted from beneath the bonnet, ie an inside turned flange on the cover enabling it to be bolted on from below, you would at some stage have to remove them.
On the "B" they were only screwed down and a sealant put around it between cover and bonnet which initially was not succesful. I think from memory it was someone like Demon Tweeks or Paddy Hopkirk that I got them from- it was in 1967!! blimey !!! wish you hadn't raised this thread now.
