What is the sensible choice of a brake upgrade on the V8S? The best you can get without going nuts.

Mine is juddering under hard braking and I guess this is down to the discs or pads, so perhaps time to sort them out if possible. I've always thought they could be more confident.

I have the original OZ 8 spokes if that makes a difference.

Did I read once that the Sierra 4x4 brakes can be used? Relatively straightforward swap?

Thanks all.

Should be a piece of proverbial, even 300mm just about fitted inside my 15" rims (although tbh it was distinctly marginal and not something I'd recommend).

I've also fitted Cosworth 4 pots much cheaper option with Disk. I wanted to go down the 4x4 route but was unable to get hold of a set, I brought the disk. So if anyone wants a set of Vended, grooved disk for £50 let me know. Most fords caliper will fit as long as they have 90mm fixing holes.

Is that all round? I mean, can I buy the same set for both front and rear do you know? I found some on Ebay for £60 a set. Is there a more reputable place to buy them for about the same price?

When you say 'machined off' is this a specialist job?

no angle grinder with a thin cutting disc. i have 18" wheels on my v8s so dont have any clearance problems. i purched the calipers off e bay and rebuilt the with a kit from a company called bigred also on ebay. this is a good budget alternative set up.

283MM COSWORTH FRONT DISCS GO ON,BUT WILL NEED CONVERSION KIT FROM HI-SPEC, VERY EASY TO DO,I DID MINE IN AN HOUR AND YOU STILL USE STANDARD RS TURBO (ESCORT) FRONT PADS.IT'S A MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT WHEN THEY HAVE BEDDED IN.

You can fit 2wd cossie front calipers and disks, not 4wd. I have done just that and will write a longer post later on exactly what you need (pics too if someone can host them), total price inc p&p ca. £100.

I can't see the point in the cossie 4 pots, they weigh a tonne and were not that much better than the standard. You also have to change the hubs, or bug5er about having a load of extra work done.

Ford Sierra Cosworth RWD front brake calipers and disk upgrade.

You need;

1. A donor car with callipers, carriers, disks and pads (buy new if you like).
2. A 13 mm drill.
3. 8 X 13mm i.d. washers ca. 1.5 mm thick.
4. Angle grinder and drill.

Take off the originals and the disks, including the carriers from the hubs. Now the brave / no-going-back part, take your 13mm drill and enlarge the original mounting holes on the hubs. Cosworth callipers take larger bolts. Your cossie callipers will now bolt straight on, but you will find they have slightly the wrong off-set and foul the callipers. First, you will need to use the grinder to take just enough material from the inside of the callipers to clear the rim of the disk (make sure you have a large enough grinder disk for this). Second, take you washers and put one between the calliper mount and the hub and one the other side to space the bolt back so it does not foul the disk. Third, bolt the lot on and check for clearances with the wheel in place. My 15” wheel fouled on the balance weights, so I moved them, 16’s no problem. Fourth, sit back and admire you work.

Pics to follow,

Z

I'm going the 260mm route with sierra xr4x4 calipers.
You need 260mm 2 wheel drive sierra discs or escort rs turbo mk4 I think (same disc).
xr4x4 discs won't fit.

I have just kept a lookout on ebay. Got a pair of new bendix discs for £8. Second hand calipers for £25.
Tarox red dot fast road brake pads for a tenner.

Going to get calipers rebuilt by biggred already mentioned above - about £110 for both I think. www.biggred.co.uk
Then its just bolt on & bleed. Its a TVR though it can't be that simple.

This is Griff 500 spec by the way.

I can't be bothered at the moment going any bigger.

Chris, can't use the disc you say as the Wedgies use 5 stud Disc's / Wheels.
But if the Granda disc's are 262 mm and 24mm thick then they should be the same esp as the cossi disc's was 284mm. may need to use spacers (washers wink )

OK, this weekend I'll take some.

Just after I did this I severed two fingers on my hand yikesweeping , so was unable to lift stuff for three months. Fortunately the fingers were saved, so I will whip the wheel off and post a few pics.

Bugger! - hope all is going OK with the recovery.
Wasn't a TVR related incident was it?

Where did a wedge come from ?
I thought the question was for a V8S?
I have no idea what the equivalent 5 stud disc is, but have a look on here www.brakeparts.co.uk it gives all measurements of each disc etc. You may be able to compare 4 stud (sierra) & 5 stud (granada) discs, very useful site.
I used this site to determine calipers & discs required.
Calipers can be 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive but the discs must be 2 wheel drive for the 260mm solution.

Chris
