When refitting the new spigot bearing I wasn't sure if there was a shoulder to drive the bearing up against or is it possible to push it too far into the casing ?

Hi Chris,
I've never changed a Cologne spigot bearing, but various other engine spigot bearings I have fitted all abutt against either a shoulder or the bottom of the machined bore in the end of the crankshaft.
The bearing normally sits flush with, or just below, the surface of the rear face.

Hi Glen,

I did think that might be the case but didn't want to risk pushing the bearing too far into the crank and causing a problem. I should have checked before refitting idea

You are OK Chris, it wont go in too far but flush against the outer edge is right. One small thing to check, I do not think it will be a problem with yours unless the engine was changed at some time but the bearings were not always the same size on all Cologne engines. Just to be sure do check the gearbox shaft does match the ID of the bearing.

Some earlier 2.8's had a smaller bearing (and smaller camshaft bearings as well).

Thanks for the heads up but hopefully this shouldn't be an issue as it's a late S3 but then it is a TVR smile
