Hi folks,

Question from my neighbour who recently purchased an S1 - how do you remove the cigar lighter from the dash?

When his sat nav is plugged in is blowing the fuse and when investigated further just moving the cigarette lighter unit also shorts the fuse out, so presuming wires touching / arcing.

I have no idea as only had experience of the squarer S3 style in which the centre console is easily removed.

Thanks in advance

Max

The cig lighter is just mounted in the small removeable trim infill panel that tucks under the one-piece dash/centre console and is secured by one screw.

I had the same problem with it blowing fuses so I binned it and fitted a new one that I bought from a car accessory shop. There is a corresponding trim panel on the passenger side that probably has the cut-out already in the panel, covered in the vinyl/ambler trim. If you put it there, there's less chance of the driver catching his knee on whatever is plugged into the socket.

I wired my new socket separately from a permanent supply ( with an in-line fuse ) so I can charge stuff like phones etc. with the ignition switched off.
Not sure he's got the separate panel following a previous retrim - didn't look too closely but will pop round to have a look. He's thinking of relocating a new unit too.

Cheers Glen
