The previous owner of my S1 did a fairly nice job replacing the swoosh with individual lights, but I would like to make it original again. I have the black cover, but I can't find a part number for the piece that mounts to the dash, or any info on the bulb holders. Does anyone know where I might find a part number or be able to purchase this piece?

Thanks!

I thought that it was just a series of holes in the dash, with standard Lucas warning lights pushed into place then the swoosh glued over the front, ..... well thats what mine had.

Hi David,
I know that yours is an early S1 like mine, and I don't think mine ever had the translucent black swoosh as fitted later. Mine originally had a grotty grey gelatinous swoosh with holes for the indicator bulbs and the symbols imprinted in white. I found it lurking in the glovebox, left there by the previous owner who updated to the much improved black aluminium swoosh with individual lampholders and white symbols. Not sure where it was scourced from, and I'm sorry I have no part no's.

The lamps on mine are proud of the panel but I quite like them. They work well and are nice & visible. ( I had to tone down the main beam tell tale a bit to stop it dazzling. A dab of my daughter's purple nail varnish did the trick. )

I think there is a picture of the various arrangements in the Steve Heath S Bible.
What is "original" on a TVR anyway?

It seems like I need the grotty grey thing then. I have the black translucent piece, but I can't just stick it onto the lights. I guess I could make one out of some plastic or aluminium and build the sides up a bit with foam tape.

It probably won't be much of an improvement in terms of knowing what's going on, but I think it will look less 'kit car'. The 'lights on' light is bright blue and is a bit of a distraction at the moment, so that would be nice to dim down a bit.

Thanks for your feedback guys!

Mine is a late 88 S1, it came with the black plastic over the dash lights. Very stupid of TVR because you have to remove the bulbholders upwards if a bulb fails! Furthermore the plastic can 'dim' the lights so much that warnings can hardly be seen..I got an 'advisory' once because the tester couldnt find the indicator warning! I replaced the bulb holder with ones where the bulbs come out from the rear, and changed the plastic front. Still pretty pathetic so I have taken the nasty bit of plastic off for safety, I can now see the bulbs (and put them in a better order...indicator at the bottom wasnt very clever!) but it is still messy and I have yet to decide how I want it. The original was pretty poor, so to hell with originality! Incidentally, have you worked out how many of your lights do not connect to anything? Without looking at the tests I did, I think 3 are redundant and never had any feed.

Hmmm, was it:
Brake pad wear warning.....no feed, or sender
Low oil pressure warning...no feed, or sender
Low fuel warning...........no feed

Thinking of feeds..............another mince pie perhaps?
