My fuel filler cap could do with new chrome plating but my local plating company advise that the release button must be removed from the rest of the assembly ('cos it is brass and the rest is die cast and they need different plating processes apparently )
Has anyone done this before? - it looks like there is a good risk of breaking the die cast bit whilst driving the pin out.
Alternatively, anyone got a spare filler cap assembly?

If its a soft spiral pin (I've never looked myself) then you could drill it out to save the risk of cracking the casting whilst whacking at it with a hammer.

Hi Mick,

Sorry I can't help with the filler cap question but I was just wondering whether you have replaced your door hinges yet.

If so, how did it go?

My driver side could do with replacing too.

I don't know how much you have been quoted for the replating, but we had the same dillema and the answer was.......TVR car parts.com. £69 inc vat and delivery.

Kevin,

Was that a locking cap?

I think it's cheaper to get a new cap than a rechorms.

Thanks for the responses.
I had been quoted £40 for the rechrome. Unfortunately they stripped off the old chrome plating before they decided they couldn't do it!
I had guessed that a new cap wouldn't be available but if TVRparts have got them that must now be the best option.

ps I don't recommend Kent Metal Finishers in Gillingham for anything!!

Hi KS2

The cap was as standard, i.e. latching but not locking.

Thanks Kevin.

A locking one would be great but I've yet to find one!

Cheers,
