Wednesday 15th April quote
I got this email this morning from the TV company that makes Wheeler dealers, the words are self explaitory, but I Can't take them up on the offer so if anyone else wants to then feel free to contact Daniel at th details below.

Mark

Email below:

Hello

I’m contacting you from a tv company. We make Wheeler Dealers for Discovery and are featuring a S2 that we are restoring in the show. We need to feature a pristine S1, S2 or S3 to show how the eventual car will look. We are filming next week in Surrey – possibly Wednesday. Would you be willing to come down and have your car filmed? We pay all expenses and provide a DVD of the finished show, which is broadcast all over the world..

It will be a short day, filming at a private facility in Surrey. Nothing dangerous – static and driving shots I know you’re in Plymouth, so it would be a fair drive. To be honest, I thought we would find no end of cars to shoot but the owners clubs have nothing to offer – I guess the cars are mothballed for the winter.

We would prefer the original wheels back on if that were possible. Anyway, please come back to me if you are interested! I hope you are!

Many thanks

Sounds like an experience and sure to be jumped upon by a number of S owners.
Would love to take mine but I don't think it's quite the 'pristine' condition that they are after frown

with regard to the V8S, I've been communicating with him by email and I think they are getting quite desperate to find someone to help - they approached the TVRCC but got no response so if I was you I'd email him and see. They are desperate enough to have tentatively agreed to travel to me if they can't get anyone else as well as put boots on my original OZ wheels for the filming.

I also mentioned SCH to him and suggested he may wish to use the event in the show - more publicity would be good and I'm sure we could sting them for some more prizes etc if they did.

If you don't mind I'll drop them an email tomorrow and see if they do want to attend....?

My S3 is, according to David Batty, one of the best he has seen. Its all origional and shiny Cooper Green and I am located in Surrey. Pleased to help if I can.

Strange - I couldn't see anything in the S Forum on the TVRCC website.... confused

I've just spoken to Daniel from the TV company.

He has said that they have had a couple of offers for cars since this thread started which is good news. Even better news is that they are interested in attending S Club, possibly with the car they are working on biggrin

If they do come along we will need to make sure we don't look too rough after the night before in the pub followed by a lack of quality sleep in a tent....

Just what we need.

Brewer babbling in Mockney about 'sweet handling geezer' and 'give us yer keys' convincing everyone that you can rebuild a TVR from a rusty chassis for £20 and a packet of Bensons.

Never having watched 'Wheeler Dealer' I did not appreciate that Mike Brewer is involved with the programme. That being the case, I would not wish to be associated with it.

I've not seen it either so didn't know MB was part of it. Surely it's not all bad news though, especially if the programme can fuel someones enthusiasm for doing a car up and keeping it on the road?

For those who haven't seen it, programme is thus:

Budget is set. Used to be £2k I think - might be more for new series.

MB goes and buys a car, usually something interesting which needs work, the plans being to fix it up within the budget and flog it for a profit. In the past I've seen a Merc 230E, Capri, VW Beetle, VW camper, Porsche 924 etc.

Problem is that MB has a 'tame' mechanic - the unfeasibly limbed Edd China, who seems like a really nice bloke. Edd does all the work for gratis, the premise being that you would do the work yourself if you were trying to emulate the show, while MB supplies the parts bought from scrappy/ebay/retailer etc.

After 2 x half hour shows the car is finished and MB 'sells' it to a punter for a little profit, usually a couple of hundred quid.

Problems are thus:
Edd's labour, though free, benefits from massive expertise, a full workshop including 4 post lift. He also takes on stuff that even a competent DIYer might think twice about. Taking into account the need for professional help, the tiny budgets they run too start to look impossible for a DIYer.

There is too much time wasted on MB 'being a geezer'

My concern for this show is that they buy an S in needs of help for, say £2.5k and spend the rest of the money on parts. Edd makes it look easy and they make a profit in a couple of weeks.

Wholly unrealistic.

Maybe we should ask them to buy a car that:

Needs new Outriggers - so we see a lift of body off
has knackered shockers - so we see how to set new ones up
has a misfire - so we see how to detect and fix (for Elfit if nowt else)
needs bottom ball joints - hehe
needs new engine mounts (just spite really ! )
has a yellow connector which is burnt out
has the caps missing from the swirl tank and expansion tank (Krypton Factor event?)
Doors have dropped and has no wing mirrors...
Has no front indicator Lenses
throttle cable snapped at pedal (just to see MB stuck in footwell)

...could be an interesting program hehe

K wink
