When putting things back on I have noticed that the two metal pipes in my cooling system are badly corroded and need replacing.
The one to the top of the radiator containing the otter switch and also the one from the bottom of the rad.

Does anyone know where I can get replacements?
Looking back I see that Ken (Clarenceboddiger) bought some stainless steel pipe from ebay for the bottom pipe.

Norm????

Cheers

Hi Tim,

You could try ACT (try the link below, not to sure if it'll work though!)
Bit pricey for a couple of tubes but there you are.

I was going to use something like These for the straight one, haven't thought about the one with the sensor yet

I think you#ll find that http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/ mkae the pipes for ACT.

If there is sufficient interest I can find out what my local engineer would charge for a pair and I suggest that the later chim otter switch would be used

Norm

I would be if they were a sensible price (don't need stainless as I'm not into the hyper shiny engine bay). Was contemplating getting one made in Aluminimum or steel anyway for when I do the hoses and radiator in the autumn (or wet summer).

My coolant system is being dismantled soon for a check over of the hoses and tubes and to get the swirl pot sorted so if my pipes are in a state i'd be interested as long as it's not too pricey.

2 x 90 degree bends and a length of straight pipe make up the top one, you just need to be able to weld stainless (unless you want to use mild steel) I'm using a Kenlowe fan so wont need the normal otter switch as the Kenlowe one just goes in the tube.
One thing I will say is that Stainless is a swine to work with as its so hard, it wrecks hacksaw blades and files.

Thanks all.
Norm has sorted me out.

Looking at the way mine had rotted I can see this is going to be an issue for many people in the short and medium term.
Mine rotted from the inside so I can't see that there is a great deal that you can do about it, apart from accepting the inevitable.

Cheers

Tim

on my "to do" list is speak to a chap called Alistair at www.jmlengineering.co.uk

He made me a new pair of down pipes last year out of stainless and very reasonable price. Its just a matter of getting round to borrowing a pair of old pipes and getting over to Southam in normal work hours. Don't know if he can do the swaged bit on the ends?

Now who do I know with time on their hands, some old pipes and doesn't live too far away whistle

ETA have emailed Alistair Elfits photo and asked for "budget price" if he's interested in the job.

Easy way to do it is to run a bead of weld round the pipe

Hi All

Spoke to a local company company who can do the job but they are no cheaper than going to ACT Products, so no point there. JML Engineering (Phillpots contacts) dont have the tooling to wotk with 35mm (1 3/8") pipes, so its all a no go.

But will keep my eyes open if anythink come up.

I'd say that ACT deserve some business when you consider what a tiny market there is for these, and they have several sets in stock. They do have a reputation for quality kit too. £80 odd quid may seem quite a bit, but at the end of the day its only a couple of tanks of go juice and cheaper than a new engine when all your coolant has leaked out!

IMHO rolleyes

Are there any replacement pipes for the engine mounted ones, are they standard Ford? I mean the front one that circles the bottom pulley and i think there is another along the sump. Both seem pretty rusty. To be honest they look worse than the large front pipes that are pictured above.
