Today ive stripped of the flakey immatation wood on the door trim.I rubbed down and polished ,using wire wool, the ally. Finally i've put a few coats of laquer on

Result:-

Now as i see it i have some options

1,leave it as it is
2,paint it blue
3,get it re-veneered
4,other

So what do you think would look best ?

I did exactly the same last year and I have left it as you have it now, to match the ally gear knob (fitted today!) and the ally handbrake lever (part of my prize for winning the picture this competition last month) which I am still waiting for.

Did I mention before that I won? oops sorry

If anybody else wants to do this, see www.haggishead.myby.co.uk/TVR/sep03 (Sep 4th at foot of page) for how I did it.

I was just pondering the flaky wood paint today after cleaning.

Thanks for tip, didn't realise they were ally underneath.Think the shiny looks good!

How did you manage not to mess up the leather with the wire wool, does the strip come off?

Looks nice - I'd probably just leave it as it is - I'm about to do the same.

What about the dash? I was planning on doing the same to that too...

Edited to add: Did you leave the strip in place while you cleaned it up - or remove it?

You take the whole door trim off, and the little alloy trim is held on with 4 or 5 tiny nuts on the back. Dawdle!

Sounds like I'll remove it then. The Dash I was going to leave in place and mask off the leather.

pies' site has a page on removing the little switchgear panel on the console - that's not too hard.

Removing the big bit of the main dash, on the other hand, is not for the faint-hearted...

Looks good Colin...

Mine have been painted BRG to match the car (That was a bit obvious)...They look pretty good as well although I haven't got the coloured piping like yours.

You could Photoshop the pics you have there to see what the blue would look like..!

In that case, print the pics off and colour them in with a nice Crayon.

Mind you the tricky bit is not to go over the edges, I hate it when that happens.

Very nice, I'd leave it as ally. You obviously have far too much spare time .

Nice one Chris, that looks really good it compliments the blue piping. Methinks I'll have to get mine done (in British Racing Green of course)
