Views on SE London (Bermondsey / Rotherhithe?)

Morning all.

I currently considering a change of location in London. At the moment i'm in Wandsworth, SW London, but have increasingly been looking at the Bermondsey / Rotherhithe area. My reasons are thus;

1) Cheaper rent, for a nicer place. Not substantially, but every little helps.
2) Easier to get to work (Green Park), 15 minutes from Canada Water on the Jubilee line
3) Cheaper house prices. Realistically, at present levels i won't be able to buy in SW London. SE prices seem markedly cheaper in comparison. Before i buy i want to get to know the area and work out where's good to buy and were isn't.

I was wondering what people's views are on the area? All views greatly appreciated.

Ok thanks, i'm 23 with no chance of ankle biters any time in the near future! What's the area like for going out?
