No! Convoys are really not like that. The only time there's a problem is when junctions etc. split us up. Then those at the back start to have trouble getting back in line. The trick is to be near the front.

The plan - Changed

Gateshead down the A1 to Junction 48 (approx 1hr). At junction 48 take the slip road to Services. It's a Morrisons. See red arrows on the two maps on the link below. The plan is to meet at these services at 11:00 so leaving Gateshead should be around 10:00. I am planning to meet up with the Yorks lot near Harrogate at between 11:30 and 11:45
