Caffeine and machine new venue...

So the night gave a very interesting insight of the ups and downs of the caffeine and machine buissnes model.
Regarding the Carsington site, on November the 3rd there was a public meeting in the area. Living there and asking around the village of Hulland ward there seems to be a positive attitude towards the venue.
However there was a few objections from certain people in surrounding villages.
There was concerns about speeding cars coming and going to the venues. One claimed that cars were known to have gone down the Carsington drag at 150 mph. Which is of course complete BS.
Some of the objections were about any potential rowdiness around the venue.
Both Dan and Phil have invited anyone who objected to be guests at the original C&M Ettington site to acualy see how things are ran there.
Dan and Phil was also saying that it would bring jobs to the area, which is clearly true, after all the original C&M employs 100 people. However one of the opposing side suggested that no one would travel from Derby or Ashbourne to work there, which is completely nonsense being that even Derby University is only 15 minutes away.
At the Ettington site when C&M first opened for the first year, the staff would join the local speed watch camera teams to monitor cars coming and going along the main road. I remember at the time that patrons of C&M did not like the idea of Dan and Phil helping the local residents and police to catch speeding drivers. But there was a method in the madness, the vast majority of speeding cars caught were local residents of the area.
C&M have had a 4 year good relationship with both locals and the police at the Ettington site.
So that's what was spoken about on the night at C&M.
It seems that the objections are based on people thinking the Carsington will be a fast and furious meet in sainsburys car park kind of meet. So it's up to C&M to prove its not by using the Ettington venue as an example.
Oh, and we had another exclusive that they have bought another place further down south.
So let's see what happens. No matter what I will always use the Ettington C&M as I have over the last 4 years regardless
You've got to be pretty stupid to be speeding around a venue like that, if there would be one place expecting to be checked, it would be C&M. But I guess the people who don't know what goes on, will be doing the usual 40 in a 30. Regarding the Carsington site, on November the 3rd there was a public meeting in the area. You know what. I’d agree with most of that. You don’t need to worry about patrons drink driving. The local residents will take care of that. But I’m still not agreeing with the speeding past the reservoir. How am I so confident? I was young once. Thankfully a shorter final drive stopped things getting silly.
My opinion has been changed. I will be visiting on the bike for a coffee.

I have gave you nothing to agree with or disagree with, I just reported back.My opinion has been changed. I will be visiting on the bike for a coffee.
As for the speeding past Carsington at a claimed 150 mph, and I will still called bs.
Yes people including locals speed down there every day, and C&M are not even there yet.
To be fair as long as they slow down by the time they get to the pedestrian crossing there isn't much harm putting your foot down on that bit. You can see what's coming for quite a way.
150mph is good going though
Agreed about people not willing to travel from Ashbourne being BS. That's what we do in the countryside, drive to places

Apologies. I’d agree with the owners actions being positive actions. Also agree that the 150mph and staff not travelling from Ashbourne comment from locals are also BS. As for the speeding past Carsington at a claimed 150 mph, and I will still called bs.

Thanks for the update. I’m between both venues, so can pick and choose. It’s a week tomorrow for a decision to be made re the planning. I hope it goes through.
There making there decisions in a few weeks regarding this venue.
As I said, it's not the village of Hulland ward were I live that's protesting, it's the few villages that are no were near the venue. They even stated the increase of carbon emissions
I am now of the school of thought were i am thinking, fk it, don't bother opening it. Just let the whole area die a death. We have already lost the nags head pub in Hullandward this year, so all we have left is the black horse.
Karen's will be Karen's I suppose.

Once upon a time about a million years ago, the Black Horse used to hold a weekend event for a certain newsgroup based motorcycle group. Shenanigans were seen that would surely never grace the C&M venue(s), I don't believe there were any complaints from local residents. As I said, it's not the village of Hulland ward were I live that's protesting, it's the few villages that are no were near the venue. It’s certainly riled people up, and as you say lots of other village parish councils seem to have piled in. It’s odd that sone would rather see a decaying pub left there to rot anger than it be used. According to one objection, it was a thriving and well used pub….. clearly it wasn’t.As I said, it's not the village of Hulland ward were I live that's protesting, it's the few villages that are no were near the venue. I do think that anything regarding cars and motorbikes is quite controversial these days though.

My bold. That does not surprise me in the slightest. I’ll bet they were doing 40-45mph in a 30 limit as well.Regarding the Carsington site, on November the 3rd there was a public meeting in the area. The speed kills message has utterly failed. People take it literally, if I am going slowly then I’m fine. They give no consideration to the actual speed limit. The slogan should be changed to speeding kills.
ETA: actually even that is wrong, inappropriate speed kills. But that is way too long and not catchy enough for simpletons

Objections are still being sent in. In the portal there are now 25 pages of documents which are primarily objections including a lady sending in recordings of traffic noise from her kitchen window.
There are a few letters of support though including one from Mike Brewer.
Edited to add that the application has been recommended for refusal (subject to ratification from the committee). Doesn’t look like it’ll go through as proposed.

I was down caffeine & machine again today for what will be my last time this 2022.
Chatting with Phil and his dad Alan, all I will say is that they had the same objections/barriers while developing the Ettington C&M site, as they have now in Carsington. There is a positive feeling so Its not over till its over.
Fingers crossed

The refusal wasn't unexpected sadly as the NIMBYs were given the extra support of the PCC but they seem to miss the obvious point that C&M could operate the facility as it stands (& may do so) given it has permission as a public house/restaurant which is what the existing C&M site was before they took it on. It beggars belief that locals don't want local jobs for the young adults of the area which means they have to travel even further afield in their cars. I hope C&M will regroup & return for another go with this as the country roads are available for all who pay their road tax & not just those who live locally!! https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-news/h...

Personally if they can open without planning changes I’d do that, prove the NIMBYs wrong and then apply again for the additions. If they implement all they have done at the existing site then nobs should be kept to a minimum.
I work about 10 minute drive from the site so would love to go up there on a sunny lunchtime and eat food by some nice cars
