Great day, great turn out, didn't do a car count but it had to be 40 plus, well done Nick for stepping up to the plate in John's unfortunate adsence.
Sorry to everyone behind me when the car had a little tantrum , but it made it there and it made it home again.
Not sure what was up with it, sounds like something electrical which should be fun but then the 'issues' it had coming home were more like dodgy petrol, so I've filled up at my local and I'll see if by magic that fixes it.
Good to see some old faces, and a few new ones, shame we had to shoot off a little early but we had things to do and had to factor in tow truck times into the deadlines.

Absolutely brilliant day out, thanks to everybody involved, and a big thanks to Phil's co driver in the blue wedge, we wouldn't have been there without your navigation skills.
Great run there and great run back with alot of head turning from people in Matlock and Chatsworth, FANTASTIC.
Get well soon John.

Cheers Nick.

Great day out.

No worries, Dave. Tomtom even found me a new tunnel under the M1 on the way home to round off the day!

You're lucky. Tom-tom picked an OK route for me heading up to Manchester on Saturday (Basically Derby/Ashbourne/Buxton and in through Stockport )

On the way back, same option - avoid motorways - it decided that Leek was the place to go. So Stockport/Macclesfield .... at that point I decided I would head via the Cat and Fiddle to Buxton, which it seemed upset about at first but accepted in the end.

Arrived at Buxton and it got its own back by insisting on heading for Leek again!

Bit of short cut to avoid Leek centre and then off towards Ashbourne. Then a different route again as we hit Ashbourne and off down to Sudbury to join the A50. How it can pick two entirely different routes for an out and back journey I have no idea. The return must have passed every Speed Scamera in Cheshire and Staffordshire - what a nightmare those roads are.

Still, I can't blame it for the various police checks on the Cat and Fiddle road since that was my choice.

I had thought to pop along to Calke today to take a few shots but the Saab seems to have started to lose coolant again (this time through an obscure and difficult to see sort of collector pot and mass of rubber pipes on the bulkhead, or so it seems) so I thought better of it given the temperatures we have been enjoying today.

So I stayed home and listened to the Download gigs. Guns 'n Roses sounded pretty good tonight, though not a band I know much about. Sounds like they have either just finished or turned the sound down. I guess the festival didn't get in your way at all.

Plan B worked a dream in avoiding the A453 past Donny! Although a few people were a little surprised that it was a circuitious route that returned to the point which we left the A42....

(and the paramedic parked up just off the roundabout there must have wondered what was going on with us all going past twice within 20 minutes!)

Well I enjoyed it at least!

Lovely day out - anyone else from South Yorks notice how good the roads were compared to ours. As soon as we were back through Chesterfield, Bang, Crash, all over the place. Time to speak to the MP !!!

Hmm.

The route planning must have been meticulous then. Most of the roads around here don't really deserve the name - more a collection of potholes separated by rubble.

Can someone send me a copy of the route so I can try it out?
