Come back Starkholmes, all is forgiven!
I think that if The Tavern at Tansley was liked by people the other week, we could use that, The Peacock at Oakerthorpe and Starkholmes this year, for our local meets, i suggest we forget all about the 'other' place, quite seriously. eek

Polarbert and i went there today for a drink and a snack and because he took a picture of my Mini GP he was told, twice, to leave! I was at the other end of the car park, for no particular reason, other than keeping out of the way of the photos Rob was taking and looking at an old car which was sitting down the bottom end of the car park.
Rob told the landlady that we were having a drink and a snack, but she told him they were closed! (What, at ten past twelve?) He asked her what time it opened and she just walked away! Weird or what?
I went in, to be told by the barman that it was of course open, but they don't allow trespassing in the car park, or photos without prior permission.
I was then asked how often i drank in there, as they only want regulars! By this time Rob had joined me inside and the incredible conversation continued. We were told that it was not public property and we shouldn't be there and would we leave! eek
I refused, until i had explained that custom is surely custom, (the pub was totally empty after all, we went to the Peacock from there and you could barely find a seat, it was so busy) and that all i have done to date, is to try and get more people to go to the place!
They got a good return on the Xmas meal, i would imagine, by the way.
You couldn't write it, what a stupid woman!

Oh. One other classic from the landlady.

"We heard through the grapevine that you lot had gone back to some other pub in Matlock anyway".

Thanks Rob. The car looks good.
The Anchor?
At a guess, i can only think that perhaps they have had a pretty lousy winter, trade-wise and let's face it Rob, there was one hell of an atmosphere between John and Jean themselves today, never mind us!
You are right though, she was incredibly rude and in a way, i felt sorry for John because he was clearly being forced to support her ridiculous outbursts, against his gut feelings, when i gave them a shed-full back.
Under the thumb, methinks!
What the heck, life goes on eh!

Warren, i do feel a bit of a nit, because i have been telling everyone to stay with The Anchor! Oh well! eek

Boosted, Rob was treated like a bloody criminal.
With the pub down the road full and theirs totally empty, you'd think they would have been grateful of the trade.
'We didn't think you lot were coming back' was another great line i got!
They'll be serving members only next!

Rob, i thought you were incredibly well restrained, good on you for that, mate.
It really was a 'pinch me, i'm dreaming' kind of moment!

The "Ian, i didn't realise you were with him" line came way too late, i am afraid, because whether they knew you or not there was no call for such whingey moaning and arrogance.

Probably best to leave it now, Rob.
I left her in no doubt whatsoever as to what i thought of her stupid tantrums, rudeness and arrogance and she seemed astonished that anyone would actually respond, with interest!
The thing that is so stupid is that she should be saving her 'i am the landlady and i want you to leave now' routine for the drunks and troublemakers, not two friends calling by for a drink and a bite to eat fgs. Like i said to you, she seems a very unhappy woman, actually. The signs are all there.

On the bright side, it gave the woman at The Peacock one hell of a laugh, didn't it!

She's terrific!

She probably feels silly enough as it is.
Talking with your feet is always a good method.

I have had words, it's best to forget them now, Rob.

Aye, Warren, the woman lost the plot, i made it very very clear that she was out of order, game set and match. Best to move on, imho.

Just fill The Peacock with cars and bodies, that'll hurt a lot more!
