Was it a "scamera" van, or not.?
Discussion
I went to get a takeaway for me and the GF last night. Driving north along Park Lane, Fareham, just past Fareham Leisure Centre, spotted a small white van on the other side of the road with a camera sticking out of the roof, on a tripod like device. There looked like there were two chaps in yellow jackets, sat inside.
This was early evening, as I had my lights on.
Was this a speed camera van, one of those new Google Earth vans, or something else?
I was doing about 40 mph in a 30 mph zone, so I am hoping that it was not a speed camera van.
Does anyone know?

It's just that kind Big Brother of ours looking out for us to make sure we're not at risk from.....
Terrorists,
Tax Dodgers,
Unthoughtful People leaving their cars in the way,
and generally enjoying the freedom of our country.
We can rest assured that any people who do any of these naughty things will be filmed and have their faces blurred out so that they can be posted in the papers to make us feel all warm and snug knowing our wonderful Big Brother is watching over us day and night. After all we know how dangerous it was 20+ years ago out there, life was so dangerous for us all on the streets.
Now we can all take part in Reality TV

Camera vans have their rear double doors open to get you as they need to use their radar and photographing equipment.
A small Camera out of the roof is not one of them. Plus they use 'medium' sized vans. LOL.
Unless they are shooting out of a side window ala motorwy bridge mode!A small Camera out of the roof is not one of them. Plus they use 'medium' sized vans. LOL.

There are a couple of newish Fiesta vans with video cameras on poles that Hampshire council drive around in. Someone told me they are used to drive around looking for antisocial behaviour which apparently includes people parking on pavements etc so they can send out fines.
This is quite correct. They have nothing to do with traffic enforcement. I read an article in a national newspaper yesterday about some police forces using a mast mounted enforcement camera on their cars / vans which is going to be used to get court worthy evidence of careless and/or antisocial driving. Police state or what?

Most Forces have CCTV vans of one sort or another and have done so for many years now.Edited by 19890 on Wednesday 8th April 18:38
Anyway, if you're not in Maccy D's car park with trays under your rear wheels then you won't have anything to worry about will you?

Smile you're on candid camera
Here's more surveillance going on. Of course the argument will be that if you're not doing anything wrong then you won't have any objection. Perhaps we ought to say that back at the Politicians and stand outside their houses with a camera and follow them everywhere. After all they are rather loose with our cash and we have a right to know. So they can't object now can they?

This is possibly the same thing that started the thread.
