Trouble is - Yorkshire is a very big place. Both people and accents vary hugely from , say, Barnsley , Sheffield ,Hull, Whitby , Hawes , Leeds, High Bentham ,Helmsley , Stokesley and Bradford . The cartoon stereotype Yorkshireman probably has a strong Leeds accent but the place is a lot more nuanced than that alone.
This indeed. I live right on the south Leeds/castleford border, grew up in North Leeds. The cas crew sound rough as aholes to my ear.
Such snobbery from one side of the city to the other! But you are right, it is true how the Yorkshire accent varies so greatly. I wouldn't say a Leeds accent is particularly strong.
I'd say that once one gets South or South East of Leeds the accent strengthens, towards the mining areas. Barnsley, Wakey, Kippax, Cass, Ledston, Garforth even, then on towards Donny and Sheffield where it gets reet/rayt strong!
Nothing wrong with that, like!
But, Yorkshire people, yes from experience of working in the South and comparing my colleagues in our company with our Southern counterparts we do appear less uptight, more amiable (as long as it's reciprocated)and more willing. Perhaps that can come across as less professional?

Do people from Yorkshire take pride in being rude and tight?
Its like a badge of honour to be proud to 'call a spade a spade' and 'you spent how much?!'
All my family are from, and live in, Yorkshire for some reason it strikes me as some form of geographical trait.
I blame the accent they all sound as thick as pig st. Its like a badge of honour to be proud to 'call a spade a spade' and 'you spent how much?!'

No matter, there's somewhere for everyone in Yorkshire, example, if you're the smug southern type with pointy shoes and an aversion to whippets and flat caps, you might enjoy a weekend in Harrogate, the shining jewel in Yorkshire's crown.
Obviously the weather will be just like Yorkshire weather but there are hardly any coal mines in Harrogate and and being a clever bugger, you'll fit right in.
