Viper south of Grantown
Discussion
Thanks to all for their kind words. I'm slowly coming to terms with losing the Viper but, who knows, she may still ride again. If it's repairable, I'd like to take on the project of rebuilding it to serious drag spec (obviously keeping off of slippery roads). If not fixable then hopefully the insurance money would allow me to get a newer GTS (i.e. with a proper roof and windows). Onwards and upwards!
Cheers Hugh. Did you get text I sent earlier? I've just got some information from the insurance assessors - estimated cost of repair is £37k! Nearly £11k for the bonnet alone!! I know they've got to go for original parts but this seems ridiculous - high quality after market parts are a fraction of the cost and would prevent a rare and classic car getting broken for parts. And they don't appear too keen to allow me to buy it back salvage...

It is heart warming to see the concern and compassion that fellow PH's show for a member who prangs their car.
My family use this road regularly so from a purely personal point of view I am delighted that he did not wedge one of my kids between the bridge and the Viper when he lost it.
What is the point of this post? Am I missing something or is it just sickeningly self-righteous? Your kids weren't near the bridge so why bring it up? I'm glad I had no passengers in the car with me but I didn't feel the need to mention that. From the tone of the post I'm guessing you think that I was driving dangerously (because if you own a Viper you always drive like a maniac, right?)? This is very far from the truth; as a Viper owner, you learn to take it easy when the roads are the slightest bit damp and that is what I was doing. If I had been driving fast I would have gone straight through the bridge, not stopping still half on the road. My family use this road regularly so from a purely personal point of view I am delighted that he did not wedge one of my kids between the bridge and the Viper when he lost it.

Sorry, I didn't feel the need to let you know this when your accident happened, I didn't think it was necessary to send such an obvious and somewhat patronising reply at a time when you were reflecting on what had happened and how fortunate you and any other road users were not hurt during the Bridgegate incident........
AGAIN, on behalf of the understanding PH members, Sorry to hear of your bump, hopefully you will get something bigger and better to replace it with if it can't be repaired......

It's a thought... Or how about a twin-turbo Viper? I know of one at a good price in the US. I'm pretty sure that if I'd had an extra 300bhp I'd have been able to power out of that slide on Sunday night. Or, being so fast, just gone back in time so that I could have avoided the accident all together!
