Sorry, but where did you get this info from?

There is nothing on their website, and it is usually quick to announce acquisitions.

I see they have now added Moorland to their website, only added today though.

I've had a couple of bad experiences with AC.

Went for a test drive in a 306, year 2000. Heater matrix leaking all over my feet. Other than that it was spot on and they replaced it and still did me a decent deal.

I turned up on the Saturday to collect the car and found that the front wing had been dented and scratched and they had tried to dummy it up with what could only have been tipp ex !

However I didnt learn my lesson and many moons later, early 2005 I was looking at a nearly new 307. Did the deal and arranged to pick up the following weekend.

Arrived the following weekend to pick up car. Passenger side against a wall, so my Dad couldnt get in the passenger side, and he wanted a look around before the papers were done. Car moved out from wall to forecourt, sill was found to be scraped and caved in, has been dragged along a rock or kerb.

For that I got a car with 6k less miles and model up free of charge.

Havent bought again since. Just bought a car last week from an indy, there were issues but they were dealt with and with minimum of fuss.

Credit where credit is due...

My Mum, bless her, is still looking to replace her aging Clio and having been looking since what feels like 1997, last Saturday I made her come along for a look at a Mazda 2 Tucuma in Arnold Clark Armadale. Phoned ahead "Yes, car still here, when would you like to pop through, just ask for myself etc etc"

Arrived, car sat out front, fuelled, cleaned, looking spot on. Invited to come in to the showroom so the salesman can take some details - names, addrees, job done. Handed the keys and invited to go for a drive, get a feel for the car and so on and directed out over a pretty comprehensive route for about half an hour unaccompanied.

All good. Back to the dealership to a warm welcome, how did we get on and so on. Granted, in this case it wasn't to be as Michelle Moutin's alter ego had since decided the 1.3 wasn't quite there at motorway speeds and she'd perhaps like a run in a Sport instead. Not an issue, quick check on the system and there's two in Kirkcaldy if we'd like to pop through there?

Left car-less but properly properly impressed with the whole experience and it was noted that my Mum would probably buy something else, anything else if she could deal with that chap again. Not pushy, no hard sell, very understanding and helpful and a thoroughly pleasant chap to deal with.

Hammish at Armadale Citreon, I doff my cap and offer my thanks - in fact I feel I should really pop a wee note to his dealer principal and copy in their HR department.

Since then, test drive of 1.5 Sport in the bag but she just doesn't want a red one.

The hunt continues!

They appear to have removed the picture of the Jaguar masquerading as a Cayenne.

My god, a positive story from Armadale!

I was 18 and had just passed my test. Like every boy round my way, I wanted a Saxo, mainly because Armadale was the nearest car dealer of any kind to us. Insurance was bad, so I'd never be able to stretch to a VTR or even a Furio, but AC Armadale had a blue special edition 1.0 Saxo in stock, 2 years old with a rear spoiler, alloys and an upgraded stereo.

Went in and spoke to the salesman with my dad and managed to thrash out an insurance deal with AC insurance. We asked if we could go away and sleep on it, as it was a big commitment for an 18 year old, taking on a car and paying for it by myself, unlike some people I knew. The salesman agreed and we went home to think on it at 6pm that night. Next morning I phoned up at 10am to say we'd be in later to do the deal and he told me the car had been sold! We went in to see him that afternoon and he said "I sold it to a young lady, her dad's xxxx the builder, do you know him?". We thought that it had probably been lined up for her all along and he was just stringing us along, when he knew we were definitely coming back in to see him, deal or no deal. I know we could've given him £50 to put a hold on it, but the thought didn't cross our minds.

He took us out to the car lot and showed us a white Saxo with wheeltrims, some scuffs and scrapes and tried to fob that off onto me. We said no thanks and he lost our business. Ended up getting a Corsa from Motorway Cars in Coatbridge instead.

So you consider this bad customer service?

You were offered the car, opted not to buy it or place a deposit to secure it and the company, who are in the business of selling cars, sold it.

Sounds awful.

with the greatest of respect thats tough beans for you. In no way is that the dealership or salesmans fault. "oh i really am comming back tomorrow" is the most common thing heard. You wouldnt think twice about selling a car to someone knowing there was someone "interested" in it and comming back after having a sleep to think about it regardless of costs or commitment for an 18 year old.

You didn't want it,someone else did.He did what any person in the line of selling cars would do.

Not sure what your problem is with that situation.

We had a verbal deal in place and we told him we'd be contacting him in the morning to confirm. Never mind, forget I said it.

Ah come on now, even at 18 you should have known that a verbal agreement means nothing to a hungry salesman when someone waves pound notes at him biggrin

A deal's a deal... if you need to go away to sleep on it then ring back to confirm, then it's not a deal. If you wanted it, should have been there for the doors opening the next day, wallet in hand.

Sounds like variation on the "Oh the one you thought you were buying has just been sold by another salesman/dealership but we just happen to have another lower spec/slightly dearer one you could have"

Always heard good things about West End. I was surprised to see they've expanded to Sighthill and Halbeath, taking over Chathams.
I was actually in West End when the call came through that the deal with Chathams was done. Cant praise West End highly enough for going the extra mile.

G
A bit late to the party here but I can also say that West End Skoda have always been excellent in my dealings with them. Bought my Fabia vRS from them new in 2004, would have bought another one if the current model wasn't so crap frown

Wonder what they will replace it with?

My last 4 cars have been from various AC dealers. Mainly due to the prices on offer and the fact they seem to own most dealerships. Once I've bought my car it doesn't go back there for servicing or MOT. The only car I had to take back was a Xsara a few years back that kept cutting out. 6 return visits and a letter of complaint to AC head office (which only ended up in the hands of the garage I was complaining about). The fault was never cured and I ended up trading the car into another garage for something else. Tbh I don't particularly like main dealers but I don't fancy buying from purely used car lots either. I've had experience of other main dealers who are just as bad at aftercare service, once they have your cash they aren't interested. I hate buying cars now, probably why I've been keeping them on average of about 4/5 years!

The sliding door handle on one of our vehicles has repeatedly fallen off. Three attempts by AC to repair it resulted in three repeats of the same problem, so I took the door apart myself only to discover that all they had done was glue the mechanism back on to the inside of the door with purple impact adhesive, leaving the actual broken fixings rolling about in the bottom of the door cavity. One visit to the alternative franchised Vauxhall dealer local to us and the mechanism was replaced with a reworked metal version, as it is a known fault with the weak plastic fixings from the factory.

I've had a van with a seized engine recovered to their main Vauxhall branch in our area, left out of hours with the sales staff, only to be told by the workshop head the next day that we "should never have recovered this here, it's too big a job for us and you'll need to get it shifted to the van centre". Maybe I'm just thick but between myself, my driver and the RAC guy, who would have thought recovering a warrantied Vauxhall van to the largest Vauxhall main dealership in the area was the wrong thing to do? hehe

I feel sorry for anyone who has no choice but to deal with such muppetry.
