Eight arrested in connection with £70,000 vehicle thefts
Police operation involved use of helicopter

By Esther Beadle

Published: 09/10/2013

ARRESTS: Police Scotland have made eight arrests in connection with alleged thefts.

EIGHT people have been arrested in connection with the theft of £70,000 of vehicles, police revealed today.

Four teenagers were among those taken into custody overnight after five cars and a motorbike were stolen from addresses across the North-east in recent months.

The teens – aged 15, 16 and 17 – along with men aged 21, 22, 25, 33 were arrested as part of an operation which involved a police helicopter.

An 18-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with the thefts.

The dedicated operation involved experts from the Police Scotland’s roads policing unit.

Air Support were called upon to look for clues from the sky and assist officers on the ground.

A police helicopter was last night reported to be above Portlethen.

Now what happens. smacky smacky on back on hand.

GP are actually responding heavily to this, although police choppers over the city is a nice reflection of where it is going. A separate debate. I just hope the legal system wakens up...

My other half is down in Manchester at the moment visiting family with the RS4. One of her cousins had left around midnight, then around 1am the remainder of them felt a draught, still up chatting in the sitting room at the time the other half went to investigate. They heard the front door slam shut as they opened the door to the hallway. Her Aunt's house and car keys were taken. The Aunt's car was actually elsewhere so the Audi was the only car on the drive.
The police were in no doubt as to it being our car they were after, her cousin has a secure lockup so it will be spending tonight in there until she is ready to come up the road.

A car is a car after all and replaceable but the sad thing is her Aunt now feels violated in her own home and has talked about selling up. She lives in a nice area, in fact the policeman actually said they had never been to that particular street for anything in the past.

As you can imagine nerves are rather frayed for all involved, 4 kids in the house too.

Polis Scotland statement to the press had the usual blurb about "public be vigilant" blah blah "secure keys" blah. Can we take that to mean the house wasn't locked?

If not then I'm not saying that makes it excusable, it's still home invasion (at least by any reasonable stretch of the imagination if not in the eyes of the law). I'm just interested to know if these are still opportunist jobs or if these bawbags are getting more brazen/determined.

We are getting regular reports from the Village Association of attempted break ins and thefts and how we must 'keep all doors locked at all times'. There are also regular reports of strangers in hoodies loitering around at odd hours - when confronted they run off.

This is getting very much out of hand. I've seen one police patrol around here (last Thursday morning around 0530) in the village. The COPFS appear to have no interest whatsoever in pursuing this, the police have no support, our insurance is going through the roof and it looks like we have no legal recourse to defend our homes and properties against these scum.

Something very nasty is going to happen, either a homeowner or pedestrian will end up killed or seriously injured or it will happen to one of the scrotes. Then the Minkers will be up in arms about the senseless loss of a promising footballer and it really 'wasn't his fault'.

It's a crap situation.

Not at all. Just changing times where scrotes are bored of Grand Theft Auto on the Playstation and want to play in real life. The sanctions they face are so soft that it doesn't deter them. I suspect Aberdeen has been a safe place for such a long time that the residents haven't been as vigilant and some of the inner city estates in larger cities and these scrotes are taking advantage.

It has taken a nasty turn in recent weeks however with the method of entry being through locked doors rather than unlocked which is what the Police had focused upon until now.

Furthermore, Aberdeen has quite a wealth divide. There are a great number of people in the offshore industry and display many of the trappings of wealth that it brings. The scrotes are now treating it as sport to take these cars from driveways and appear to compete with their friends as to who can get the better car.

I'm sure that the scrotes will grow out of it and the Courts may find some form of legal viagra to end their impotence thus deterring the future scrotes. However, it will mean that very very few people in Aberdeen would dream of leaving their house unlocked when inside it any more which is a terrible shame.

The holes where these in-bred creatures crawl out of are. Same as any city.

I would add though, that locked or unlocked, someone invading your home is something that the law should be punishing far more severely than it is.

Hey everyone. First post on PH!

Just got done reading this entire thread over the past few days and it's making me glad I'm not near Aberdeen laugh

It's a shame that lowlifes like this are allowed to walk free and tarnish the reputation of us youngin's. I bet if anyone of us decided to help ourselves to someone else's car like these scrotes have, we'd end up behind bars for a multitude of charges. It completely baffles me as to how these stheads fine young gentlemen still haven't been caught and actually punished yet! Mind you, from the sounds of things that would do sweet F.A. anyway.

Anyways, I hope you all had a good weekend and I look forward to having lots of fun here in the future (once I can actually afford a car at least...)

Thank you kindly.

Unfortunately, I think the only thing that will make them stop is them all getting a bloody good beating. The court sentences certainly aren't a deterrent - 200 hours unpaid work for breaking and entering, theft of motor vehicle(s) and dangerous driving, speeds well in excess of the speed limit, street racing...

I really hope this all comes to an end soon.

The driving bans are a joke too. Banning them from driving when their offense was driving without a license isn't going to do anything at all, the same with being given points on the license they don't have. Plus if they get a prison sentence, say two years, and a three year driving ban, they can't drive for the two years they are in prison anyway. Or am I mistaken and the "ban" only starts after they get out?

Yes it will, and guess who comes off worse when it goes to court, the poor guy whose house was broken into and his car stolen by some serial scroat, who laughs at the law law, or the guy who decides to take the law into his own hand and tts the scrote.

The law is an ass, good example today, a bunch of travellers set up in a hospital car park in Wales, and the police can do sod all about it.

Strangely enough an article in the paper last week put Aberdeen way down the list for Auto thefts in Scotland compared to Edinburgh, Glasgow and some other towns.
