Its a difficult one - from the thief's perspective its an easy one to do isn't it - if this gym is like any of the gyms and swimming pools I have been to a simple flat screwdriver would do the job to gain access and there you go.

From the owner's point of view, does he need to take the keys into the shower with him to make sure they are safe?

From the gym's point of view - wonder where their liabilities lie in the eyes of the law??

I would be very surprised if they don't have a "locker users do so at their own risk" policy, perhaps they need to have safety deposit boxes or a key drop service, scum will try anything, after all they wear tracksuits don't they so gym seems an obvious choice? lol

Don't gyms need membership?

No one at the desk I wonder?

Strangely enough an article in the paper last week put Aberdeen way down the list for Auto thefts in Scotland compared to Edinburgh, Glasgow and some other towns.

Would be good to see vehicle thefts per head of population though. Greater Glasgow is maybe 5 times the size of the Aberdeen area in terms of population, so you'd expect more actual thefts...

Ah so that will be, according to Police, obviously drivers fault then for leaving keys in locker
Obviously it's st that this happened but would you leave keys for a 60K motor in a gym locker?

I wouldn't.

I'd try and leave them with someone I knew and trusted that worked at the gym.

Yeah because that's always possible.

What about one of those gyms that don't actually have staff, what would you do then?

I'd have my manservant hold on to them for me.

I have a feeling that no matter what I say you'll come back with 'but...' biggrin

Let's just say I wouldn't be leaving 60 large worth of motor keys in a nonce locker.
I'll say again that it's pretty stty that his car was hoofed but sometimes we have to deal the deal with the world as it is rather than than what we would like it to be.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous!! It's not like you are leaving £60k of cash in the locker... It's a set of keys to an insured car, of course you would just leave them in a locker as you would think they would be safe!

It's difficult to tell what this situation is, he might have left them in an unlocked locker for instance.

Anyway, I sure as hell wouldn't go to the hassle everytime you go into the gym to leave your keys with someone else..! But crap news yes!

What's ridiculous exactly?

Two cars have been stolen from that gym in a matter of weeks with keys taken from lockers but you would just leave them as you think they would be safe.

Even if the 60K motor is stolen it's insured.

OK.

It's all very well being insured but it won't compensate for the inconvenience caused and time spent dealing with the theft. What about the people who have had their houses broken into, the emmotional side of things could affect them for years.
Bottom line is the police & especially the courts need to get a grip on these s

Maybe not actually worth 60k, market value surely, that 60k car could be 3 years old.

Let's wrap ourselves up in cotton wool when we walk outside, chain our keys to our bodies (would save me "misplacing" mine all the time I guess), and never use something that has been given to you to use and be awkward as much as possible...

Not saying that it is insured it's ok, just saying that you were coming across as if you had something that would instantly turn into 60k cash stolen...

If this gym has had stuff stolen so many times, perhaps it is time to change gyms? They obviously are not up to scratch with their security...

Rant over. Hope the cars get returned to their owners.

Just seen on facebook that a Yamaha Raptor was stolen last night from around the Alford area. Spotted today by a few folk being ragged about frown

My mate texted me yesterday - his neighbour in Tough had their garage done over. When the police were round, they told them that two garages in Echt had been done too the same night, and one in Alford too. The one in Alford was accessed after the keys were stolen from the locked house. How this isn't considered burglary is beyond me!

So the little stehawks appear to be touring the rural villages now. Make sure you lock up well.

Sounds like the police crackdown is working well and proving to be a deterrent...
