Nice places to live while working in Dyce
Discussion
Good afternoon,
I've accepted a job in Dyce, Aberdeen and I'm looking at relocating from Manchester area to somewhere nice near Dyce.
I'd have about £200k so spend and would be looking for a house or flat with a double garage or space to build one. I've had a look on Google maps and it looks like I would be best looking east at places like Kemnay, Kintore, Inverourie, Alford or Insch. Are these nice areas to live?
Are there any other places worth looking at in that area? Are there any good local websites to search for property?

Dyce is a bit of a pain to get in and out of, but coming in from the East is better than coming from the North. Whereabouts in Dyce will you be working?
If you want a double garage with your house for £200k then you'll need to move a fair wee distance away. Westhill, Inverurie and Blackburn are all within 20mins commute, but the house prices reflect this.
I looked at Insch a while ago and it looked like a nice wee place, plus it's on the main line railway so you can get the train to Dyce and in/out of tohe city when required. You'd certainly get more for your money. There are a few developments out there too and, with Aberdeen expanding at the rate it is, I think prices in Insch will creep up tin the same manner as other towns and villages.

Kintore is a nice place to live, and close enough to the Dyce for commuting daily. Would usually take about 15 - 20 minutes door to door during rush hour, depending on which part of Dyce you needed to reach, and half that at other times. There's a single track road (with passing places) that follows the railway line that joins up with the road from Blackburn and which comes out at the end of the runway. Much quicker than taking the dual carriageway, as you can sit for 15 - 20 minutes to reach the airport roundabout.
The further out you go, the cheaper it gets, but be careful if you are partial to takeway meals and fast internet as your choices may be limited. My colleague lives outside Kemnay and gets a scarily fast 1.5Mbps download at best which is just about usable as a work from home option when the weather gets bad and the roads are passable with care.

For 200k you are unlikely to get anything close to dyce with a double garage or the land to build a double garage unless you buy a wreck of a place
Of course I could be talking mince ....

I used to work in Dyce,
I couldn't afford the 200k for 20mins from Aberdeen
I got myself a 2 bed flat in Insch for £127k, I've just sold it for £135k.
Its on the railway line into Aberdeen and takes 30mins. Insch is spot for easy commute without the high price tag but its not staying that way. More job in Aberdeen mean more people are wanting to move to Insch and area's due to the railway.
The only thing with Insch was that shopping is done in Inverurie and the 1 pub only sells Tennents.
If it was me, Inveruie would be your best bet.
