Well, i've tried to drum up some interest in the NurBargeRing thread, but it seems to have died a death recently. So i'll ask in here instead biggrin

ASBO and myself have been in discussion for a while about a trip to the 'Ring, along with various roads and countries in Europe. Seemed to make sense to join in with a group of others, but now it seems to have landed back to being just us two. So, would anybody be interested? I've detailed the general plan outline below, i picked the dates as it should miss the Easter holidays so things should (fingers crossed) be a bit quieter.

The Plan biggrin

Saturday 26th April - Ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge. I chose Hull as it's a bit cheaper than going from Rosyth (enough to cancel out the extra fuel cost), but also the ferry gets in 3 hours earlier than the Rosyth boat. (Aberdeen to Hull ~400 miles)

Sunday 27th April - Arrive Zeebrugge, head straight for the 'Ring, hopefully arriving just after lunch. Spend the day watching or having a few laps of The Green Hell, followed by some light refreshments and a good nights kip (Zeebrugge to 'Ring ~360 KM)

Monday 28th April - Early start, head for Andermatt in Switzerland (or that kind of general area), via some of Germanys finest unlimited autobahn. Andermatt is within 2 hours drive of some of the best driving roads and alpine passes in Europe(have a look on Google Earth at the roads that lead up to it biggrin). Hopefully arrive mid-late afternoon, in time to enjoy a bit of hooning the local area, or a bit of relaxing. ('Ring to Andermatt ~610 KM)

Tuesday 29th April - Explore the passes and scenery of the Alps at your lesuire, on your own or with a couple of others.

Wednesday 30th April - Now, two choices. Either spend another day exploring the roads, or we could head back to the 'Ring for another shot at a sub 8 minute lap wink.

Thursday 1st May - Depending on the above choice, a blast down throught the Alps back to Germany, and head towards the bright lights of a city of our choosing for a proper wind down, some drinks and some light partying, or spend some time watching whatever action is going on at the 'Ring, followed by a trip to city of choice.

Friday 2nd May - Resonably long lie, followed by a blast back through Germany/Belgium back to the ferry terminal, and the journey home (~400 KM)

Saturday 3rd May - Arrive Hull, drive back home (Hull to Aberdeen ~400 miles)

I suspect that even if nobody else is interested ASBO and me will be heading off anyway, just trying to get a bit of PH spirit and see if anybody else wants to come along biggrin

My O/H is a travel agent, and she can get discount on ferry costs, however this will require booking resonably soon to try and keep the costs down. Definte numbers would need to be known so as to book cabin/s on the ferry, so i figure a deadline of 31st January seems resonable?

If you're interested, either drop me a mail or stick your name on the list below. Any suggestions as to alternatives are more than welcome, the plan is just a rough idea at the moment, but i'm keen to get ferry and hotels booked fairly soon.

Cheers

I am going the weekend after with some friends - cannot wait. It was 23°C and clear blue skies last year. Weather is never guaranteed though !

I'd be interested in joining you!

Edit: Have you checked the ring calendar for these dates? It isn't always open to the public and opening times can differ during the day.

The published times aren't out until the end of February, and i can't wait that long as the cost of the ferry will be bloody expensive. After hunting the t'internet, i found 4 different sources of potential calender for 2008, all of which said exactly the same thing.

Plan is to book and hope for the best, worst case senario is that we have to change the itinerary

11th May all day session at the 'Ring
12th May Morning at the 'Ring, then drive to Frankfurt for night out
13th May Drive to Zeebrugge for overnight ferry back to Hull, then home

I knew the race was on the Saturday, doubt we'll get to see much of it though as we'll be coming from Zeebrugge on the Saturday morning, aiming to be there for the evening session. Where abouts are you guys staying? We're staying http://www.ringhaus.com/ for the Saturday and Sunday, then heading to Frankfurt Monday afternoon for a few beers and some naked dancing ladies, then back up to catch the ferry back to Hull on Tuesday.
