Having looked at the old reference books I think you have answered the question for FF - 420 SE: "Like a 390 body but with a different detail at the front of the rear wheel arch." The side skirts are about the one thing that seemed to be different between the 390 and 420 SE bodies.

Jonathan -

The wheels are later; from 1989 I think, as mentioned in an earlier post. Offset? How do I measure it?

The side skirts have been pointed out to me as being a small differentiating item with the 420. What colour is the 420 in the book Sean?

Happy Christmas and a fine Wedging 2004 everyone!

Ooops! Sorry about that chaps. It wouldn't post - but obviously it did - 3 times!

Got rid of the others for you. Cheers. Nick

What Ho Chaps!

Not quite on the juice yet - but a pal just called round insisting we go for a wet or two.

As I often say, I can resist all but temptation!

Thanks to all of you with encouraging remarks and praise for my SEAC. I get the impression some people wished it didn't exist. But in any case thank you for all remarks concerning the car, positive or not!

Maybe early 2004 will bring further information on the motor.

How do you do that Nick?

cheers
JJ

FF - the one listed in the book is a red'un.. and of course yours should exist - it's a BBW - the more wedges the better..

Firefox,
ARB - Anti Roll Bar (The drop links are rose jointed), TCA - Track Control arm (the usual through chassis rubber bishes are a rose joint). My Fake SEAC thread about 5 weeks ago has the Fotango links.
I hope the history on your car comes out good - i.e. it was an early SEAC protorype. If not it doesn't matter as it's a BBVW anyway. Oil problem looks like a sticky relief valve.
Have a good Christmas and Wedging new year.
Cheers,
GB

OK apologies, it seems that I was mistaken there.
FF the offset and width of wheel will be stamped on the inside ie cast in.

I would be interested to know the results of Tas's musings. I have been thinking of this for a while now - what's the difference between a 420SEAC rebodied(for whatever reason) as a 420SE without the adjustable rose jointed suspension and a 420SE? Is it purely the state of tune of the engine.
I think that the situation is really unclear. In FFs case as long as it is the original chassis then because it left the factory as a SEAC then it is one but if you didn't know that and for future cases how would you know? The SEACs had wider wheels but they could be swapped. Can there be any difference in track? Do they have the XJ12 UJs as opposed to the XJ6 ones?

There is that much variation with SEACs that I'm not so sure that it would have to be a prototype to be genuine.
BTW am I the only one who thinks that Tas was reasonable in giving the car some welly? The 350s and 400s that I know of have all blown up at 7750revs. (no limiters on any.) The SEACs are a semi race engine and Tas's has solid lifters so 6500 is a lot but should be OK with a reasonable safety margin as well.

Cheers Jonathon,
I'll have to get the SEAC engine sorted in the new year as if left in the garage the mice will have a feast!

Good heavens! The mice in your part of the world eat engines? Wouldn't want to meet one! - Streaky
