A few questions to you owners on here.

Always wanted one since i was knee high to a grass hopper. Really tempted to buy one if the right car comes along. Which model is the best to get ? What do i need to look out for on these ? Im happy to get stuck in and wang a few spanners about if required but i dont want to end up buying a money pit.

Are parts ok to get hold of ? I presume engine stuff will be ok how about your other bits are a lot of the other parts on them from other cars ?

Cheers

Go for it, you won't regret.

I'd suggest you try and meet up with a few owners at your local TVR meet or one of the bigger events.

IMHO if you plan to use the car as your only/every day driver a 280 might be a more sensible option but if it's a toy then a V8 is a no brainer.

They are relatively easy to work on, most parts are available and if they're not someone on here will probably be able to help you out.

Wedge owners are the most helpful/knowledgeable of any car of enthusiasts I've ever come across.

I concur, I bought one a few months ago and the help on Piston Heads has been amazing.
Mines a toy and a V8

But if ya don't want to stand out, it's not the car for you! wink

It will defo have to be a V8 i get actually i didnt realise they did anything apart from a V8 in them.

Gotta talk my Mum into letting me keep it in her garage though as i doubt it would fit in mine.

As Danny say's..Go for it..I wanted one for years and its only because i didnt see them in years gone by to keep reminding me just how much i wanted one that i didnt get one.. But now i have one its the best car i have ever owned..Even with the tales of woe..All cars are a money pit!..But i have found that at least with a TVR its worth every penny for the amount of smiles per mile you get..Its a good idea to go to any meets to have a good look and a chinwag with the owner's..There are certain things to look for when buying a wedge but unless it's a right pile of then most of it is DIY doable..I think we need a buyer's guide to wedge's as a sticky on here..Cheers..Ziga

Go for it Ric, you will enjoy every minute you drive it. Once you've had it for a while you'll get to know the parts from other cars that are part of the Wedge and also the chaps on here are more than willing to help, there is a WiKi post on here with a lot off part numbers which will help as well.
Good luck.

Hi

Welcome to the world of wedges. What to buy is always a problem, you have so many diffferent options and advice can also be so varied to the point of being total confusing at times!

I agree with Zig a buyers guide as a sticky would be a great help but again could be confusing.

The best thing is to set a budget, look around, be partly ruled by you heart as most things can be sorted if they go wroung etc! But also don't just go for the first car as there will always be a better car around. Also don't be afraid to ask for advice on here and other forums. Most wedge owners are nice people and we love the cars and are happy to help!

Maybe but the V8's can be very reliable.
My 390SE is virtually my everyday car now (I have a lovely BMW 530d sport 2005 too which should really be my everyday car but has no soul !!!), so my fuel bill is HUGE !!!!!!!!!!!
But who cares, you only live once and all that.........
Am excited for you, when you get a wedge there simply is no looking back. Awesome biggrin
I love every second of driving my beast, sounds awesome too biggrin

Good luck and hope you get a nice one biggrin

Thanks for the advice so far.

Im in Northwich Cheshire, not to far from Christopher Neil's.

A lot of it comes down to cost tbh. I dont want to end up with something thats going to cost a fortune ( have a young family etc ) I would only use the car very little during the year anyway tbh.

My heart says sod it go for it, but my head says wait a few more years save up a bit more cash.

Northwich...I am sure someone local will be along who will be more thean willing to show you there pride and joy.

If you had been closer to the Lakes i would of been more than willing to meet up, but not till early July(working away) as i am thinking of chuckng the tent in the boot and having a bit of a blast around the lakes for a weekend.

Ha, coincidence, I was there yesterday, buying a Vitesse Gearbox for my wedge!
Small world.

Go for the best you can afford, cheap is normally for a reason and a bad one will swallow your dosh and cost you more in the long run than a good one to start with. you will luv the V8 rumble its very addictive.
