Going to replace ALL fuel hoses, anyone have a diagram please
Discussion
Hi All,
As title, due to a split fuel hose, just wondered if anyone had a diagram please showing where all the fuel hoses from the tank lead to etc. ?
Got the bible but not very informative.
My wedge is a 390 SE 1987 if that helps.
Many thanks
Also what fuel hose is recommended please ?
Many thanks
Regards
Ian

Hi Ian...Not sure who to recommend these days?...You will need some 51 ID fuel hose for in-between the tanks, Don't get the wire enforced stuff as it doesn't clamp down very well..Then you need a few metres of 5/8ths..(Ask Wooly350i).. and about 2M x 15mm ID for the tank to swirl pot and the piece above the 2" part in-between tanks...Who ever you get it from make sure you talk to them and confirm that its ok for modern fuels...I will see if i can find the company where i bought the large bore from...Cheers...Ziga

Interested in this also for future reference, i'm sure most of the stuff around the tanks/fuel pump has been done by TvR before i bought but would like to ensure the rest is OK especially the main run which i think runs under the driver sill and the bits under the wing.
Will the run in the sill be rubber? and why run fuel hose under the wing? surely a spot where damage can occur!

Ziga, is some of it really 5/8"? My main stuff (albeit only a lowly 350i) is 8mm I/D (5/16").Edited by mrzigazaga on Tuesday 24th June 18:09
I am planning on doing mine in the not to distant. I think I am going to go down the line of copper with R9 to join the relevant bits.

Whoops...I make you right mate...Don't know why i thought it was 5/8"...Just checked it and it definitely is 5/16"..The same as the pump outlet and filter inlet....Cheers for pointing it out...ZigaI replaced mine on the 350i with lorry cunifer brake pipe with 8mm I.D. - advantage is that it's rot-proof and effectively will last forever. The 400's use a rigid (copper?) pipe for the main feed. Short rubber hoses on each end to connect it.
I looked on the flea and it's hard to find so you might need a motor factor.

Hi Ian..I have drawn this up for you and i think its correct..Im sure someone else could correct me if I'm wrong..Now I'm not 100% on some of the sizes as i know the hose to the swirl pot is bigger than 5/16 and think the balance pipe is bigger as well..Also I'm not sure if the return from bulkhead is where i have put it...Im going by what the 280 was, That should also be 5/16....
I have put the fuel filter pre-pump as this was what mine was...Hope this helps...Ziga

Hi Ian...Dan is fine..I think his little helper may of bodged my hub nut as every time dan has done anything like that i have never had any issues...Thing is with him is that you have to be exact with what you want..point out that you need ALL the pipe replaced, Wether he can get the 2" (51mm ID) I'm not sure but also tell him to call you if there are any issues..Ziga

Yes if you let ethanol vapour come near copper, the copper will react by taking your license away ;^(
Actually, the Jocks have been using copper for years with ethanol, and making quite a living out of it.... so I think it's pretty safe.

The problems appear to arise when a car is left unused for a while, the ethanol separates from the petrol and then reacts with a variety of materials, probably including copper. Leave a classic car parked over winter with petrol/ethanol in the pipes, the ethanol appears to separate out and starts dissolving things. Another reason to use a car all the year round. A view:

Is tt possible to replace the hoses to bulkhead and coming from bulkhead with a copper hose like on the chimaera?
yes just done mine on the SEAC project. 8mm kunifer front to back. I also slid the kunifer inside a thermal and fire insulation sleeve.https://www.hilltop-products.co.uk/vidaflex-s360-8...

Because we all have been posting that coming off the tanks it's "5/8" which is a marine grade" for years. I guess we have been wrong? Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
