Well it's not even Christmas yet and the New Year is yet to arrive and already I'm thinking of the long hot summer ahead ... and planning for the Big Bad Wedge Fest 2005.

This year's event was a great success - probably the best event this year for me, so let's get down to what do we want to do and where for 2005.

I think the main thing is to keep it central and to keep it affordable.

So with that in mind - I have two proposals which I'd like you opinion on:

1) Ettington Chase
Return to Ettington Chase - it's central, they are happy to have us back, good facilities but the bar is expensive and we have to share with a wedding party.

Format to be pretty much the same. Cost £0 - unless staying.

2) Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds
www.bruntingthorpe.com/

Made famous for TVR fan's in Jeremy Clarksons video - where the Cerbera trounces all comers ..

It has a 2 mile runway and an Aircraft museum.

They can offer us a location next to the Aircraft museum - I know Neil Hyde will like it as it has a English Electric Lightning. This is idea for chatting about the car's, a picnic and lastly a great photo location (apparently).

I've talked with the location owners and they normally charge £200 / car per day but I said we would just like to hire the 2 mile run way for an couple of hours - so the charge would be £50 per car but only for those who want to use the runway.

As far as I know it so far - there is no other cost for those that don't want to use the runway but if we hold it here - well I hope you all will.

For accomodation - we can either :

i) Take over a local village using B & B's - this might be a lot of fun - to have nearly everycar in a village being a wedge another advantage to this is local beer prices we can also block book a pub restaurent

ii) Find a local hotel

So - What do you think.

Let me know

The Provisional dates are out I'll mail you a copy.

I've defected to the dark side with a tuscan racer but im keeping the taz and it will be out for a few rounds. Either with someone hiring it or a few mates running in it... Fancy a go ?

What about something like Santa pod? Dragging up the strip all day against other wedges?. Should be quite cheap in a sort of 'run what you brung type fashion'.

www.rwyb.com/

Then back to a hotel to laugh at the print outs with some awards and drink loads of beer.

Don't think it would work - Petrol Ted tried this for PistonFest last year and he was not too happy with the results. I went along and did not really like the 50's American english folks .. strange breed of people.

I used to drag race a bit and found it very hard on the machinery .. I have broken diff's & flywheels to prove it.

Also - we would have to share the venue with others else the cost would be huge. Not much change of 'The Pod' letting us do it on a weekend either.

Bruntingthorpe does have a 2 mile runway - so we might even be able to 'max' out our cars - at 'The Pod' most would struggle to crack 100 in 400 yeards !

Bruntingthorpe sounds like it could well be a great day . Local B&Bs could be fun if we can find enough of them of a decent standard.

Wasn't at Ettington Chase BBWF this year (due to not having a Wedge at that point!) but it looked and sounded like you had a good time.

Not helping very much am I (), as I'm easy either way!

Andy

On reflection lets go Bruntingthorpe - I used to be descisive but now I'm not so sure!!!

Lets give Bruntingthorpe a go. It's worth trying somewhere new - if it's not so good we can always look forward to returning to Ettington Chase in 2006.

As usual i will go along with the majority but i havent yet decided what i want the majority to be will give it some thought.
Would like to see a few traders wherever it is though.
Polishing company, Leven, rolling road etc....as long as they turn up for free....cos we like free

I'm easy, so anywhere where there are wedges would be great.
I can go this year.
I'll follow the threads avidly.

Ettington Chase was a great venue and I would happily go there again, but Bruntingthorpe gets my vote this time.

Wedge's and a 2 mile runway =

i be up for it ,now which location to go for .i liked this years venue it was one of the best meetings ive been to ,you have everything there no worrys bout leaving your cars ,etc .but i think brunters would be good as well ,and you can give ya car a blast out. be could if theres a fairly big hotel near by, reasonably priced to accomadate the people wanting to stay rather than everyone trying to find b&bs in different areas,i dont think there be enough b&BS in one village, people will then get split up then the atomsphere will be lost ..
so to solve this move this years hotel near brunters
i think go to bruntingthorpe this year see how it goes. you carnt comment until its been done .
cheers neil

The only trouble i can think of with brunters is that someone would have to formally organise it due to the circuit hire etc....

how do the vmax guys do it, dont they do somthing like sign a declaration to say they are all join hireers... and is that actually legal...

whilst I think the venue sounds a laugh and fancy a blat down the runway... id have someone to get bogged down in paperwork or face some form of liability is someone stuffs it..

That's an interesting point - I wanted to gauge opinion first but we should be able to over come that easily enough.

Happy for either (never one to make a decision ) although having already been up brunters with the TVRCC I can seriously recommend it.. when they did it, the fee was only £15, and based on the numbers we managed at BBWF 2004 it felt similar at Mania 2002.. although that could have been the effects of the sun perhaps it would be worth talking to the club to see what and how they arranged it.. given I have some time off coming will be happy to follow it up... (must be the wine talking )

If this is the way we all want to go how about getting the car club involved?

Brunters sounds good, but I went to a track day there, and the stonechips the participants had at the end of the day were awful. Subsequent TVR track days there saw heavy duty cling film issued for wrapping around the front of the cars.

Not sure if I would participate in runway stuff if the front of the car was going to be chipped away (more than it is currently!).

Rich.

Happy for Brunters but one of the great things about this year was the venue and parking facilities

I will have a search as well . . .
