My brother is on his 2nd TVR a 350i with 4.0 engine (sounds fantastic) however his split rims are missing the centre caps apart from 1. A good friend of mine works for a precision engineers and I gave him the cap to see if he could make them as I know they are like rocking horse sh@t to source cos weve looked everywhere for them with no joy! lookig at it he said it should be no problem making them in plastic but it all depends if he can get them in the mirror finish (as per the original) if not he'll look at possibly stainless ! hes not sure of cost yet I suppose it all depends on how many he needs to make and if they are in stainless,(bigger material cost)! they would be sold in sets of four an will be tested and pics shown on here 1st would anyone be intrested in a set? just so he can work out rough costs. My brother is going to get a set done anyway as it just ruins the car without them.

ps booked for the BBWF cant wait!!

I think many of us would be interested, but it would all depend on cost.

For example, I would pay £50 for a spare set as mine are OK, If I didn't have them or they were broken, I might pay £100. If a replacement set was £200, then I wouldn't even consider it. I think many people would be thinking along the same thoughts. You might have 30 people say yes they want but if they were too expensive, then only a few people would actually buy.

thumbup Ok this is useful information, plastic would be cheaper however one of the possible problems with using plastic is the high mirror finish which you could definatly get with stainless, whats the general feeling out there would you sacrafice the mirror finish, say black for the cost of stainless?

Ok point taken about the black!(not the right colour really) chrome colour (mirror finish) would be the best I agree! I should be speaking to him early next week so hopefully should have more of an idea of what can be done about the colour (plastic ones, maybe grey to match the spokes) and costs, any other thoughts, ideas? I can always feed them back to him?

Gandalf, they would be recessed just like the originals ready for the decals but the wouldnt be provided.

would like to know if these caps are going to be made b4 I sick the decals to the old caps, which have got very small pit holes in them. but look fine unless you are very close.

spoke to my mate yesterday he enquired about the plastic, to get the mirror finish thats a good quality and stays on it has to be done from a mould and that appaently would cost a few grand yikes stainless is proving to be a bit too expensive! Hes now looking at ali and what the best way is to achieve the polished look. Will keep u posted.

Ok spoke to my mate hes decided to make them in Aluminium then dipped in chrome, one question he has which I cant answer is the nobbley bit that sticks out of the back where the screw goes through, is it necessary? I dont thinks it is,possibly something to strengthen the area were the screw comes through! but im not sure.

Cheers!

Thanks for that! Hes now going to make a set for my brother from Ali then dipped in chrome for that 'mirror finish' so once the set has been made, I'll be able to post some pics for you to look at ( I know they'll be of a very high quality because thats just him! a perfectionist!) as with regards to cost theres quite a bit more involved than I'd of thought, they have to be made from a certain type of Ali to withstand the dipping process and this process to be done properly has to be outsourced. Hes said until hes made a set he cant work out the exact cost but reluctantly hes given me a ball park of around 120-130 quid for a set of 4!Whats the general feeling? Would you still be intrested? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Cheers.

Given the number of people interested mass production will hopefully bring the price down a little!
