Hi

Just removed the seized fan motor on my '92 450 SE

Make : Davies Craig PTY Ltd ( Oz) !
Model: SSW-1158(R) or 399600 - 0623

Dimensions approx : 5.5" dia x 3" depth

What the hell has this come off, a Holden or similar ???

Has anybody discovered a similar make on their Wedge / Griff and were you able to find a direct replacement without any modification to the cowling etc....

Cheers

Hi,

My 1988 350i had this fan motor on it. When it seized up I took it to bits and replaced the bearing. Parts cost about £5. Job took about 3hrs. Result was very happy quiet fan.

this is the same type fitted to my '89 350i. Its a chunky four blade job - tvr made a special housing over the back of the radiator for this fan which is a bit of a pain to remove in case you wanted to fit a pair of kenlowes instead. Mine overheated and melted itself and was beyond redemption so Hexham HC rang around the other main dealers to source one (tvr don't have any). price about £100 all in. A new bush is far cheaper if it's just seized.........

Thanks for the replys......

I took the motor to bits & the front bearing runs free, however, as the motor is a sealed unit on mine I cannot get to the rear bearing / bronze bush which has
obviously seized.

Cheers

I know it has been some time since the original post but my fan has also just seized and the referance is exatly the same.

The car is a 1990 S2 with Ford 2.9 V6.

I am responding in the hope that by now someone has found a solution to this or knows of a suitable replacement.

Any assistance much appreciated.

I don't know about an exact replacement......but I got a twin fan setup, complete with shroud from a Mondeo diesel. The shroud is perhaps an inch or two too wide for the rad, but that can be easily blanked. With a little bit of imagination, this can be modified to fit quite nicely.

This was on my 280 and it's deeper than many aftermarket fans so may or may not fit you V8 types......

2nd that, go to the scrappys, get fan and shroud for a tenner, fit self = better cooling
