I have a couple of extra washers on one of the top bushing bolts on the 350i, I was assuming that they'd been placed there by a bodger at some point:

I was going to just take them out and fit new bushes, then I remembered the SEAC had a similar thing going on, and I don't think that car had been touched since leaving the factory:

So... are they supposed to be there? Has anyone else seen this? I guess it would have the effect of moving the gearstick sideways towards the driver; not a bad thing!

Do you know - I've never noticed these before! I always wondered why the gearstick rubs a little on the passenger side and eventually rubs a hole in the gaiter.

Now on the 350i I have replaced the box at least once but won't have shimmed out the remote, which explains the rubbing.

I've had the remote off recently as the linkage dropped a nut.

I shimmed it, but not enough or tight enough so it left some flex when changing up to 2nd and 4th which causes the bottom of the housing to just catch the prop.

Just taken my gearbox out and it sits exactly the same as yours - thought mine was a bodge too - maybe not then.
