"so ideally we need atleast 2 groups with definate instructions on where to go"

This is what I meant when I asked in the last thread. Not if it was a race but if you to made allowances for different car and driver abilities.

If you all drive with your dipped headlights on it helps to see who is on the run, and all the Volvos on the road too!

LOL @ Lus1fer...

i think the idea of group thing, is so some dont go off in the wrong direction .. car groups dont really matter ! for example ! the last one there was a lotus - then the mustang(Lus1fer) then me Toyota Mr2 then a Saab 9000.... and then,, i could not see that far back cos the rest were so slow ! im playing guys ! to be honest did not really have much chance to look back ! just come along and wing it!

i dont know exactly, but im guessing we lost people cos its hard work to squeeze 20 car convoys through a set of traffic lights on one go, roundabouts too, all objects of torment for anyone at the back of a convoy

We need pre-defined meeting points. That way, we can all exercise our engines. One man's hard workout is another man's canter so to speak. The GT3 was obviously on a mission and it would have been rude not to follow but we all knew where we were headed. The problem last time is that there was a vague idea that we would meet "in Brecon" and it's a bit bigger than that.

Yeah we seemed to get split into 2 or 3 groups at the big roundabout getting onto the A470 due to traffic lights.

lets do some proper roads instead of boring A470 ?

maybe to Usk > Raglan > Monmouth > Abergavenny on the B roads lick
You and your back roads, eh Dave?

I like the Usk route via A449 but those nice white "picture taking, smile please" vans tend to park-up to deal out justice. especially at weekends. I got caught there once.. (Lucy-Fur will vouch for Gwent being a "nice" place to be nabbed).. so will not be speeding or playing tag with 911 Sport... So who is going to plan the route ?

well as last times 'off the cuff' method kind of worked, i guess if people throw some ideas on the table now, everyone can discuss if they're suitable or not, and get an idea of whats happening before hand

Apologies - it was a GT3 not a 911 Sport... Too busy keeping up with it last time to read the badge.

I might come along but the car is going up for sale in the next couple of weeks so will have to see what happens.

I recognise that Maserati. Are you from around the Cyncoed area?

Is it worth having a coffe/photo stop halfway so that every one can regroup?
Or even have two stops but not so that it makes the run times too short.

We had 3 or 4 stops last time iirc.

The problem is when you get to a town and the back runners get caught up in lights etc.

Will it be too hard to just do it in stages.

Myself and J & Mel (Blue Elise on last run) have been party to a useful tactic that helped keep previous groups together between stages. Don’t shoot any messengers please!!
All it takes is for us to glance in our rear view mirrors when we can - especially at junctions, traffic lights, roundabout exits or any other tricky or group break-up situation. If we see that the car behind us has fallen back, don’t boot on regardless, but take it upon yourself to slow down or stop and wait. When visuals are regained, happy days!! you’ll have clear roads in front and away you ALL go to catch up the guys in front who SHOULD HAVE waited for you. If everyone does this then the group will move freely and catch up as one.
WARNING - as soon as the speed clouds our consideration for the group, its game over, resulting in people getting lost and peeved off.

Having a planned route of the stages helps, so too does having a selection of mobile numbers to hand around on the day.

suggested route with a bit of everything

A470 > the Storey arms Pass where we can stop for a coffee at the burger van

Storey arms Pass > Brecon > Bwlch > llangynidyr > Blaenavon (over the top gear test road)> Abergavenny bus station

stop and re group at bus station for coffee

Bus station > raglan ( on back road ) > usk ( on back road ) > Caerleon ( to back road ) > M4 > home

reckon about 4 hours run including 2 x 20 mins stops

Blast, recognised by a local. Ignore the hill-billy known as Lucy-Fur from the lower windswept slopes of Caerphilly. Cyncoed is correct. Car is kept garaged, for obvious reasons, but driven at weekends, bank-holidays or when the fancy takes me to blow away lowly tuned American trucks from the lights...

Car is kept in a lean-to on the side of the caravan, for obvious reasons, but driven at weekends, bank-holidays or when the barons want a package delivering. It would take a far greater power to lardy weight ratio for me to blow away even lowly tuned American trucks from the lights...(even Lightnings will roger my Maser senseless)

Found some more power have you? You should have brought it last time

If you have the looks and the pedigree, why do you need to show off all of that power... It goes, it stops and it would whip your arse Lucy...
