Hi to all the South Wales PH'ers.

I'm spending a week camping on the Gower Penninsula first week of August.
Are there any good roads you can recommend or are there any local events, shows or meets planned that week in South Wales?

Thanks

Llyn Brianne is not far away. Many options down that part of the world and there is a nice place, among many others, called Porthgain, nice place for a stop. Last time I went there there was a pub called the Sloop Inn(?) that did excellent crab sandwiches, locally caught. Bread may have been out of a packet though Roads to Broad Haven etc are in the area.

There aren't any really good roads in Ebbw Vale, just plenty of pot holes, you'll need a miners hat & light, some of them are that deep!!

It just looked interesting on the map, I've never seen four or five roads all going in the same direction!

I'm from Rhossili and now live in Three Crosses but the thirty years between them I lived all over the world and the UK. Gower will be packed to the hilt with drivers stopping to feed the wild pony's on Cefn Bryn, stopping with no warning to look at the scenery. If you can get in the King Arthur at Reynoldstone they do nice food and have Ferrari owner meeting there occasionally. If you want nice roads stay out of wales. Nothing but potholes and general poor condition. The welsh assembly in its wisdom spends forty percent less on welsh roads than the english. The scenery is great, sun sets at Rhossili the best campsite (Penmaen) in europe and Three Cliffs has been voted best beach in the UK. The roads are sh*t. Maybe the the road from the King Arthur towards Swansea is quite nice, it has some fast bends and strights. Just watch out for the sheep!

..............

No generalising there then....

Of course the reason why Evo, Top Gear et al all carry out so many of their car tests in Wales is because the roads are so shite.....

Your in the wrong place mate. The roads around the Gower are no good for driving. You need to go to mid & north Wales.

To be honest he's right about the road back over Cefn Bryn from the King Arthur all the way to the airport. It's a hoot at maximum attack in the GT3, rate limiting factor on the Aprilia is the humps coming off Cefn Bryn - can't keep the front wheel down above about 90

No I'm in the right place.
Gower is just where we are staying (for the great location and Three Cliffs Campsite as DorCRX says) the rest of Wales is our playground for driving. As mentioned above the spectacular Llyn Brianne and Elan Valley have already been given the once over.

Heading north to elan valley dont miss out the road from Brynammen to Llandovery. 7-8 miles of pure class and a popular magazine venue

Thanks DorCRX. The King Arthur was a great place to drink & eat a real gem. We had a great week in Gower, not too crowded at all. We didn't do any driving really just chilled out.

If anyone's interested I'll be posting an early morning run up the backbone of Wales - Brecon to Bleanau Ffestinniog (sp?) from the Midlands, but it would be good to meet up with some local PH'ers as well.
