everything was archived to a central location from all the RAf stations. There is a place you can contact if you have information such as service number and camps served at.

Gary,

Thanks very much - had a fantastic day on Friday, with the missus and my parents, and then later on with all the kids. Drove down to London the day before and stayed overnight in a hotel. The day started with getting into a black cab and the slightly surreal experience of being able to reply to the question "where to guv?" with "Buckingham Palace please". The investiture itself was a superb event and ran like the well-oiled machine that you would expect it to be. Plenty of time in the build up to take in the interior of the Palace and the atmosphere (at least the bits that you are shepherded around) and then get nervous in the queue as you move forward. Yeomen, Life Guards, and other staff everywhere. Fantastic surroundings, long wide corridors, loads of artwork to rival that in the Nartional Gallery, ornate furniture, ceilings, woodwork etc - all of it shouting quality, class and history. Do the stuff as briefed, medal pinned on, quick chat with Her Majesty, feel twenty feet tall, and then to the back of the room to watch the rest of the proceedings. Missus and parents in front row of the guests, meet up afterwards for pictures, and then outside the gates to meet up with our kids - unfortunately, about 20 minutes before the last bit, the heavens opened, so they had scuttled off to the restaurant and we met them there. Great meal, and then onto Madame Tussauds (the Eye was the preferred choices, but the visibility was so poor it wouldn't have been worth going on it that day). Finally, home to Huntingdon around midnight after dropping my parents off in Birmingham, because the trains were all to cock with the snow - just as well we took the Land Rover rather than the MGA. All in all a grand day out, and then back down to earth with a bump on Saturday, painting the hall, stairs and landing at home.....
