To be honest, IMO it's a bit overrated, as you drive through very concsioUs of the average speed, and somehow it's too big to be properly loud....
wouldn't worry too much about the average speed wink

Am I missing something? Why do I seem to be the only one that sticks to 70mph in the tunnel? Are the average speed cameras inactive?

I've always found at 70mph I'm flying past people..

That's my experience of it too, people seem to slow down considerably to go through the tunnel frown

This isn't a problem when they then hoon back up to 70mph and let the exhaust overrun..

If they don't.. They're annoying.

hehe

Is changing lanes allowed in the tunnel? Been through it few times now and thought there was a solid line between the lanes.

Yes you can change lanes, they are just normal hazard lines, it's just they have extra cats eyes in them which are lit during contra flow working.

  • just to keep you all updated, the planned closure for the 11th - 12th March has been cancelled **

P.S whoever was in the grey Ferrari just now in the northbound tunnel, sorry for ruining your fun, but it did sound good!! wink

Ae there any planned closures for April? I've pretty much written off March due to planned closures and other events happening.
Also do you personally think it's safe to organize publicly on the forum or should it be kept offline?

As I drive over the A3 bridge daily, there is a sign saying closures are due but this is positioned before the Bordon turn off, posted just after Hambarn going north. NOt 100% read it to be honest, I'll try take a closer look tomorrow.

Theres a closure next weekend, but from the signs it's quite a long stretch of Northbound.

As mentioned about three posts above, for some reason in small font

THIS WEEKENDS CLOSURE OF THE TUNNEL HAS BEEN CANCELLED

biggrin just to make sure everyone sees it!!!

The one for the 17/18th March is still on (at the moment)

I expect that they may be another, but that is yet to be planned.

Edited to add: the reason why it seems like such a long stretch is due to the diversion route stretching from Guildford (A31 junction) to Bordon (via Farnham)!!!!
