Right, well as I will be working in the engineering industry for a year before uni, and i'll have a bit of money, I want to upgrade the KA to something with a sporting edge.

Still, bear in mind I will be 19 when I get the car insured, so insurance is a very important issue (For a group 5 car it'll be about £1-1.5k fully comp).

I want a car that could be used on hoons, but I think that's not gonna be possible for a couple of years yet. It also has to cost less than five grand.

Lets see what you can come up with!

MX-5 is a possibility although it might be a bit uncompromising as a daily driver. The insurance would still be over £2000 on one of those though (stupid slough postcode!).

Clio 172 is way too much to insure in this area unfortunately - it'll be over 4k, the price of the car!

Ford SportKA seems like a good choice, insurance could be as little as £1300, and they're supposed to be good fun. Only problem is it's probably too slow to keep up on hoons.

What age limitations are there on the car?
I'm open to suggestions, but it's gotta be used everyday.

how many miles do you do per year?
Will be about 20,000 miles! Actually, maybe I need to get a diesel.

Here's some ideas for what I could get:

Cheap and reliable, and good economy, quite quick, low insurance:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/398474.htm

Supposed to be a hoot to drive and cheap to run, low insurance:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/381273.htm

Bit expensive for now, but maybe will come down in price in 8 months:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/340638.htm

Smart looking, reasonably quick with low insurance:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/373163.htm

Nice example with low miles, top down hooning and RWD, very high ins. cost:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/372348.htm

Fast, good MPG, but expensive to buy (hope price comes down) and insure:

Are you supposed to answer your own 'What car' thread? 'I suffer from schizophrenia we both have a budget of 2.5k. What should we buy for £5k?'
Haha, nope, I'm giving everyone an idea of what is attainable at the age of 19, as most people don't understand the cost of insurance at this age in a bad area.

Have you actually tried getting quotes on some of these suggestions, I swear that insurance group has very little to do with some of the quotes I got when I was younger!

PS. I think the best (funniest) I ever got was well over £1000 a month for a lexus.
Yeah I have tried quotes, and you're right, it's not all about insurance group. However, the SportKA and Fiat Panda 100HP have been the lowest quotes ive found.

MX-5 was about £3000 full comp. which is as much as they're worth as a car!

20k miles a year? Forgot about anything that will keep up with us lot, buy something cheap and fun and enjoy it. Spend less than £3k on the car, get TPFT insurance, and run it for a couple of years. The money you save on fuel and insurance and so on you can put towards something really nice for your 21st wink
Sounds like a good idea, as I don't think i'd like putting 20k miles on something nice.

However, I don't think i'll be able to get anything nice until after uni, which will be a bummer. But at least then insurance will be low.

amazing mine was 1.6k it was a megane coupe though
Yeah it's generally a lot cheaper for girls. Mind you an equal number of girls and guys have written off their cars at my school, but at least the girls don't try and show off.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/309942.htm - Aygo is much nicer and cooler than a yaris if you ask me, I also think they're a giggle to drive!
Perfect - that'll last you all through uni and cost tuppence ha'penny to run.
60 Mpg is much better than the KA! Bit slower than the KA, but guess I won't have to worry about speeding tickets.

Don't think that was me actually, don't remember going out last night.

Have seen you around a fair bit though Jon - always nice to see the GT2 out and about.
