hmmm..
well i would not want to take anything away from the great recent success of ginetta cars ltd
im very happy that they have managed to keep the brand alive and well, i would not have wished anything else.
BUT, surely it cannot be right for anyone (including GH) to produce cars that they are legally not entilted to produce. This cannot be condoned if it occurs it certainly does not contribute to 'ginettas survival' as u put it. in fact it will detract from the credibility of the marque and cars in the future.
Dare is a company and brand in its own right. It is the Walkletts, and the G4,12,16 are the ginetta designs that they are legally entitled to build and market if they so wish. Having both dare an ginetta ltd around is great for all concerned.
if u cant afford a real g16 and wanted a recreation made, you can't get your mate to knock one up in shed and get some chassis plates made (which is infact what u are implying by your picture analogy). Im afraid you would have to very nicely ask Dare to build you one, cos anything else wouldn't be a Ginetta, or a G16 or anything for that matter.
i wonder what the lotus boys would think of an unauthorised person blatantly knocking up elans and putting chasis numbers on them!! why should it be allowed with Ginetta's. it does not look good.. im sure most sane people will agree with me on this..
............back to the original topic now!!??

A Lotus enthusiast I know tells me that there are currently more Elan 26R cars racing than Lotus actually built but to ge honest, I really don't think it matters very much.

If I were to go to a historic race meeting and see 9 G16s racing, even though I know that the factory only built 8 original cars, so what? It is the beauty of the design that is important, and someone once said that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

If people not entitled to the rights to manufacture something go ahaed and start producing chassis, who is to know in a few years time which are 'genuine' authorised cars and which are not. Add to that the possibility that someone is fudging chassis numbers and registration details from other cars within the marque, this compounds the problem.

Now let's assume that one of us is lucky enough to be able to buy a car in the future and invested quite a sum of money doing so. Then after a short while it becomes apparent that you have purchased a fake and effectively lost not only a lot of money, but now have a car nobody will touch with a barge pole, is that right and what would our opinion be then. Not onlt that but future buyers of all historic Ginettas are going to be very wary about buying the marque.

I cannot believe that the Ginetta company can condone the practice knowing that the right to manufacture do not belong to them. The good name built up by the Walklets is now becoming tarnished by this practice. One's business and professional integrity have to be to the highest standards to gain and retain customer and brand loyalty.

Hmm - I bought a Prada bag which cost me a lot of my housekeeping money - turns out that it was made in a shed up the A12 somewhere!! Someone had got a good copt label and sowed it in. My bag is worthless.

Wait a minute (slaps forehead) - do I see a parralel with Geeman's chassis plate arguement - what say you

I've been told that there are even fake Ginetta badges now! I know there are some faking (reproducing) the Ginetta logo stickers, inc the rare 60s wreath type and making money. Nobody seems to care. Perhaps they have permission?

bit of a difference between someone making fake ginetta badges and someone making a fake whole car!!!
also there are always going to be unauthorised reproductions/replica race cars around, but i dont think you'll find anyone actually advertising the fact that they are making them..

Damn right there's a big difference between badges and cars, but it is going beyond this when a chassis made long before the existence of Ginetta Heritage is then allocated a chassis number by the new company. So it seems if you have a 'replica' all you need to do is form a queue at Ginetta's door and collect your new chassis number.

It is purely and simply fraud!! They have no legal right to make these cars or issue chassis numbers
All the companies and associated companies and the owners club know who owns the rights
The G12 that has been talked about on this thread and is being offered for sale as a Ginetta with a Ginetta chassis number is blatantly fraudulent (car ringing)
I wonder what the previous owners think to this, I can remember this car being offered for sale at half the current price because it was a made up car with no chassis number and offered for sale in that condition. I wonder if they feel they have been taken to the cleaners.

Just one question - how honest is it to sling brickbats at people from a public website such as this but then hide behind a pseudonym.

Please, show some real courage, Mr Winner and Mr Geeman - let the rest of the world know who you really are, or are you frightened that someone might take action against you once your identity is out in the open?
