A number of years ago, Ivor and Tom Walklett helped me to buy the ex Malcolm Douglas Ginetta G4R, that was so successful in Britain and then Canada.

During my research into the comprehensive paperwork that came with the car I found a letter confirming that Malcolm had applied to enter the 1965 Le Mans 24 hours race. I have written to ACO to see if they can provide any further details as to what happened to the application.

In the meantime, the car is being rebuilt with the hope that it is ready to race next season. I attach a photo of the car in the spray shop.

Morning all - according to the documentation I received with the car, it was brought back to the UK in March 1989, in a very sorry state. The new owner, the late Simon Talbot, was a highly talented aircraft technician. He undertook the restoration himself, including making a flatbed chassis jig. Sadly, Simon passed away before he could finish the car to race standards. I was fortunate to buy the car in August 2014. The car has been disassembled and all usable original parts are being integrated back into the car. This is a 9 month project and I hope to supply more photos as the build progresses.

In the meantime, I am attaching photos of the car in period, the first at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Canada on 17th September 1967 (first in class) and the second, a few months earlier, on 12th June.

Ginette G4R - competing in the Masters Trophy - 1st in class and 3rd overall - amazing result considering the calibre and BHP of the other entrants.

After a thorough rebuild, the G4R is back on the road. Tom and Ivor will be fettling the car over the coming weeks, in anticipation of a full race season next year. In the meantime, the Dare G4 is undergoing reconditioning after having completed 30,000 miles.
