Nah! He's just confused into why his post has generated so much traffic..and why everyone that's contributed has got hot under the collar whether in the positive or negative.

Get the orange one!...No! hang on...the blue one...christ on a bike...Decisions...decisions.

Really?

One of the least confrontational RS/ST threads I've seen in a long time.

i have also owned both these cars. the rs was amazing in its time but build wise and interior wise no comparison. both great cars but the st has the 5pot noise the rs cant match. for everyday driving it is the better car. on the track if tight and twisty the rs is better (mainly due to the brembos harder suspension and lsd) but on a 9 minute track like the nurburgring the st is the winner. only 5000 rs`s is nice but they are a bit old now and they will end up costing you money. when i had my rs every1 loved it, but its paved way for a more subtle better built less track orientated and more grown up car. both great cars, but everyday the st (with leather) is better and also better than most cars twice its price.

used car roadshow? hahaha with that fat bloke selling idiots people carriers. hahaha. rs best hot hatch 2007? its 4 years old so no its not best hot hatch of 2007. probably some crappy mini.... and to the bloke who said it handled like it was on rails, no, no it didnt . no, at the limit u get understeer oversteer everysteer just as u do on any front drive car depending on what pedal adjustments u give it, only a 4 wheel drive car can really handle like its on rails, and certainly not my mates evo fq360, maybe something more like a a3 quattro with 150bhp. handling like its on rails it piss boring anyway. and tyres? i got rid of the michelins on the rs after 7000 miles and the contis on the st lasted the same. and michelins are meant to last longer ask any tyre shop. and fuel bills really are negligable, almost zero difference.

I've driven both, and own an RS.

My 2 pence worth....!!

Standard for standard, there is little difference between the RS and ST.

I like both cars, but chose the RS for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it looks really good, and is a rare vehicle. I hardly ever see another when driving around and, shallow though it might be, I like the exclusivity.

It is extremely quick, and with approx £1k spent on light engine mods, sees some massive power gains and improvements on the noise.

I find the RS comfortable too - not sure why people say it isn't!? Compared to my clio 182 I had before, it is much more refined! Hard ride, yes, but I hate wallowy cars.

The ST is a lovely car, and I nearly bought one... the negatives? I didn't like the nose heavy handling, and the RS 'feels' faster (even though it's probably driving sensation rather than genuine speed).

The values of the ST's are dropping, and it won't be dubbed a 'modern classic' in my opinion. The RS' should, in theory, keep their value.

The negatives of RS ownership??

-Fuel economy is horrendous (18mpg common for me, even though I 'enjoy' the car)
-Parts are expensive (chargecooler pumps being my favourite 'RS tax' item)
-Unfortunately some of the scroates in their nova's give the car admiring looks and will always try it on
-It's a 4-5 year old car, and (as with any) they have issues due to age and mileage, albeit nothing major

I've always loved the RS, ever since it came out - and I wouldn't change it for another hot hatch.

At the end of the day, you should drive both - If you're in the W Sussex / Brighton area I'm happy to take you out in mine.

Oh - final thing - the RSOC are a top bunch and there is a real community spirit on the forum. You're never stuck if you have a problem!!

Still the hot hatch that every car maker aspires to match or better and to this day the only real contender is a DC2!

You really do need to get out more, in particular in a Focus RS round a track (or road), you'll then return to your dinner table and proceed to eat your words!

One of the most underestimated cars of the "hothatch" category, yet one that all manufacturers would still love to emulate, (VXR tried/failed) the ST is great but in the words of Ford themselves, the ST is the Dolphin, the RS is the Shark!wink

ive owned both clever boy.. have you? and no all manufacturers arent trying to make cars like dc2`s otherwise maybe they`d be something slightly like them. their are trying to make better cars that are more comfortable and can be driven everyday and u dont look like a skint moron driving.

and on depreciation: an st with no leather new was about £17500 and now with 25000 miles and 2 years old u`ll be lucky to get 1 for much less than £15000. thats not bad at all. and they didnt make shit loads theyve stopped now until the facelift (ugly) and only made 3 times as many as the rs. the 5 door 1`s will be less sought after as will the shit colour ones. so a good colour 3door isnt going to lose a hell of a lot. have a look for yourself and the cheap ones are 5doors usually in red.

Two children arguing about the ST & RS. Just the sort of image we want for our cars...

On the "future classic" subject I reckon the RS will stand the test of time and be bought/used by enthusiasts for years to come whereas in 3/4 years time the ST is destined for Maccy D's burnouts by the XR3i Max Power cru who can finally afford to trade up.

I'll certainly be getting rid of mine long before then.

As the ST is quite new, i'd think there isn't much banter swaying in the ether of the net..although i could be wrong.

Confrontational??? Nay! Banter..they're both Fords, you pays yer money..etc,etc.

yeh actually it probably does just like it makes an audi rs4 better over an s4 and an escort cosworth better than an rs2000 an m3 better over a 330ci. an brabus merc better than an amg merc.

somehow i thing the bright blue interior and push button start, oz alloys, and the fact that all these cars have had huge jap exhaust put on probably means they are far more boy racery than the st`s i see men in suits in everyday, some with five doors and in grey and silver. anyway what sort of maccyd`s do u goto that they do that in? never encountered that, maybe i never go there late enough. look at the focus rs on ebay with bits sprayed white and allsorts of tat stuck on, i havent encountered an st modified in such a manner. its a matter of class.

Ask Kimi & Lewis whether they prefer their Sunday wheels or an Audi 1.9TDi quattro scratchchin

If I were you, I'd ask for my first big book of physics for Chrimbo!

any car 4 wheel drive, 2 wheels drive or pushed by a horse that weighed 600kgs and was sat 2 inches off the floor would handle like its on rails but if u hadnt realised brainiac we are talkin about road cars on here.
