Fault code read time, could be an O2 sensor.

If the lights just on and the car's driving ok should be ok to drive, if it starts flashing at you stop and call a recovery truck.

Only in so much as I've had similar problems, albeit on a TDCi which are more prone to injector problems with the Common Rail fuelling

Fuelling goes a bit wonky, and if you leave it you'll end up having to fork out for new injectors. In my case they were £250 each fitted, x4. So you can imagine the sort of bill you're looking at

Your best bet really is get it on the diag, injectors can be recoded and you might get away with it

Have a look at www.fordmondeo.org for similar problems

TDCi is known for injectors-it won't be that. My money on a vac leak somewhere(IIRC UIM has to come off for spark plug change-has it beed done?(correctly?) or O2 sensor.

Spark plugs reason for lean-no, but if the manifold has been off to change them then there could be a vac leak.

How was the MAF checked btw? Has this car ever had an induction filter fitted?

Get the fuel pressure checked, for both banks to be lean it sounds like a fuel delivery problem.

On the early mondeos they used a common unit across the whole range so on a 1600cc it was way overspecced but on the 2500cc it was just about good enough knowing fords parts bin attitude i would imagine its the same on the later versions.
