Focus remote keys

Hi all,

I was wondering about my 1999 mk1 focus keys. When I bought the car it came supplied with one 3 button remote key and one plain key with no buttons which had a blue square on the top and a small plastic tag with a number on it. Can I use the second plain key to make a new remote key or do I need to use my existing remote key to programme a new remote one? I was just wondering whether using the plain key as a spare would be feasible or whether I need to make a new remote key before I loose the current one I have.

Thanks Julian, I was unsure if the non button key could be used to programme a new button one. I think I'll just keep the keys I've got currently for the time being then.

Thanks Dave, that is very useful info. Looks like I will need to get a new remote key cut afterall as a precaution if I loose my only existing one. Thanks again for the programming advice, will come in handy
