Choicest engine for mk2 Focus?

I'm sure that ages ago someone told me that the best engine for the Mk1 focus was the 1.6 petrol (zetec I guess - although Zetec is now a trim level 
)...
...so as it's not for me to drive, what's the consensus on engine choice for a mk2 Focus - economy/drivability - probably petrol as I don't think that the diesel premium is worthwhile (unless someone wants to try to convince me otherwise).

Hmmm, like the idea of the V8 - and as TG showed us, V8s can be quite economical too...

OH, and BMZ - when you say that the power was upped from the 1.6 in the new Focus, do you mean the mk2 new Focus or the mk3 new Focus?
