Paint work is amazing now its been colour sanded and polished
Could you tell me what "colour sanded" process is and who does it, how it benefits paint etc.Awesome job by the way... Well done!
Do you run a car restoration/mods/improvement business? If not, why not ??!!

Boost gauge was made by Speedy Cables, they weren't particular helpful or quick but got there in the end.
A couple of shots from the weekend at Autosport/Pistonheads show.

Speedy Cables is a strange company. They are also Caerbont Automotive (CAI - as per the little logos on the other dials) (gauge maker) and Greengauges.com (online design service for CAI). I had a set of Mini gauges from them years ago. Frankly I am amazed they are still in business, although I suppose the rights to remanufacture all the classic Smiths gauges helps. Paintwork looking truely fantastic. So, what is colour sanding? Is it more "intensive" than claying? Or is it something different altogether.
I'm looking forwards to seeing it / you at Chatsworth - please drop Kev (SYTVRCC RO) ( ro@tvrcc-south-yorks.co.uk ) an email to let him know you are planning to make it and I'm sure that he'll put you in the "special cars" section.

I can't help thinking that if TVR had taken this route instead of pushing ahead with their own chocolate engine, they might still be in business today.
+1Well done.
Colour sanding is basically flatting the paintwork using 1500 grit wet and dry, a rubber block, plenty of water and soap. Needs real care, particularly on clearcoats, but done properly, and with sufficient paint thickness, it will remove all traces of orange peel, swirls etc. Basically you will end up with flat, matt paint that is then buffed with a machine to bring back the shine.
Very labour intensive. Used to be standard practice on top cellulose spray jobs and to give depth to otherwise plastic looking 2-pack. Been years since I last did this but very rewarding.
The majority of top level concourse cars will be finished like this and even many new cars that you see at shows would have had this treatment (which is why when you see a lovely black car on a stand you will always wonder why the one that you have ordered never looks as good no matter how clean it is!)

^^^^^^ Exactly, although things have moved on, we used 2000 then 4000 wet and dry paper before moving on to 3 machine polishing compounds then finishing off with a couple of coats of Swissvax wax, great stuff
The colour is Pearl Blue. It was a nightmare to match as we couldn't find a formula for it. Turns out TVR reused my paint code later on for a different shade of blue...typical
In the end we had to get the colour spectrographed and remanufacured, all free of charge as the paint company now have the colour on file for future reference.
Mike, Looking forward to Chatsworth, will email Kev, would be good to leave the bonnet up
Rich.
