new TVR website
Discussion
Edt said: Accessibility issue.... a must for certain sites (ie Govt.) but not for a car manufacturer. Generally failing accessibilty test means the user with poor eyesite will not be able to navigate the site or access the content (using text to speech, or to brail). But it's a car site - so not that relevant!
Indeed that why I said it was over the top for this site. However they still should have a HTML version as well though for all the perfectly able bodied people who use Macs or Unix boxes and can't yet use Flash 6 but desparately want to buy a shiny new Tiv.
Just marketing sense really, why disenfrancise a large portion of your potential customer base when there's really no need.
Usability tests, now that's another matter. Would have plenty to say there!
Absolutley. Main thing is that without Flash 6 a lot of people simply can't use it at all. So accessability and usabilty are linked.
Cant really see why it's a Flash site anyway.
I agree. You can probably tell I'm no fan of Flash
Build your own section is junk!
Has this site been officially announced or are we seeing a preview vesion I wonder?
If it isn't finished then don't launch it to the public, else it will get discussed and slagged off on public fora
D.
Anyone who slaps a "this page is best viewed with Browser X" label on a Web page appears to be yearning for the bad old days, before the Web, when you had very little chance of reading a document written on another computer, another word processor, or another network.

If you go to the News section, then the Web-site is officially launched, still seem to be a few bugs in the system though and the Timeline thing under About TVR has a few wrong pictures (later Grantura in 1958, 400SE instead of SEAC, Wedge in stead of an S) but I suppose anything is better than nothing...
Wonder if they ever look at their Brochure Request, I requested about 2 weeks ago on the old site, still waiting.....

When I try to get on the new site, it says I need Flash Player 6, and a link to download it.
Followed that link,
WTF??
No Flash Player 6 for Unixes??
No TVR-Website for Unix-Users!
Sorry, I'm a friend of new technology, but this is taking the pi$$!
The site of that New Media Agency stated:
What a complete load of boox!!
The target of the www is distributing information, and the friendliest conclusion, I can draw is, that this web-designer completely missed that target by limiting the use of the new TVR-page to average users, who already installed the latest flash player.
I don't think TVR asked them for that.

TVR obviously consider the owners to be 'Microsoft people' !!!
You know, the produict costs a fair whack, you suffer few bizarre problems now & again, you hunt around for the best service packs, but you always come back for more !

I notice that there is no link to www.pistonheads.com on the link page (or the owners club for that matter). Shame. In my old days of MG ownership (I technically still am as I have a rusting heap of a Midget stored in a garage locally) the owners club used to send out a bunch of "Did you know" postcards which you were encouraged to put under the windscreen wipers of any MG which wasnt sporting an MG owners club sticker. The postcard mentioned all about the benefits of being "in the club". In my year and a half ownership of a TVR I havent been made aware of any independant clubs or organisations which one can join. Perhaps we can all ask our dealers to mention some of them as part of the handover process.
I've met the guys who designed this site. They were given a limited budget to work with and what they've done is good.
That said, I think it would be fair to limit our criticism to the choice of technology which is questionable given how many people are having trouble reading the site.
I hope the facilities for updating the site are in place too as I'd hate to see it become outdated quickly as TVR progress with their designs.

Authoring in Flash 6 means it's (or should be) far easier to manage remotely & to update the site with external files, which was a real pain with Flash 5. So there.
