As is often the case, I imagine the agency were rushed to go live. The site had to launch with the T350C so the deadline was fixed. I'll bet they were kept waiting for content and had to make late changes etc.
Let's remember TVR aren't famous for their timekeeping generally (well, actually they are, but for the wrong reasons).
That would account for the lack of testing and the spattering of typos. But having said that, the agency home page, though interesting, suffers from minor niggles and typos too.

I love the fact that TVR are taking more interest in their brand and marketing material, but I have to say I would have rather seen a reworking of the original concept.

IM(P)O the original design had a lot going for it. Of course it had it's short-comings. Not that I dislike what has been created by Room 58. Merely my personal preference for minimalist design.

At the end of the day the guys have probably done the best they could on the budget provided.

Wouldn't it have been great to get all the professional creatives from the TVR forum together and produce a site???

Nightmare! Perhaps we could have a website design competition at BTaP. I'll bring the crayons.

Incidentally Room58 are a couple of TVR owners who got into the whole thing after going Tuscan racing with Hawthorns.

Are Room 58 producing all of TVR's marketing material now?

I don't believe so. They're web designers not marketing people as far as I know.

I'm sorry, I was actually asking about printed material, branding, video etc.
Room 58 claim to be cross-disciplined so I wondered if they had been given the entire contract.
Trying to spot an opening I'd particularly love to work on a project with TVR

The blurb handed out on press day certainly wasn't Room58's work.

OK so the site isn’t perfect but it's a lot more involving than the previous one. But they do need to quickly is sort out all the minor niggles like pages not loading and links going to the wrong places etc.! I spent half an hour looking at it earlier trying to print off some T350c pics’ but it didn’t work because of the strange black band floating around the screen that screws up the image. It also gets a bit muddled at times with things like the “price-configurator” not working when mid-way through spec’ing a Tamora it gave me the list price of a T440R - perhaps it knows my inner-secret desires! Rich...

P.s. Ted do you know if the Room 58 guys watch this site for tips? They should 'cos they will get their work de-bugged for free!

Don't care how long (or not) Room58 were given. There is NO excuse for typos on a 'professional' and commercial' website

It's only a case of reading and re-reading after all!

EdT – you should have been asked to tender – we'd have had a working site then hopefully.

Edited because of a typo

Hi Rich, yep I am aware of the TVRCC and am a member. The point I was trying to make was that I wasnt made aware of any the club or other groups by either of the dealers I visited (including the one I bought the car from). I only found out about the TVRCC, Pistonheads and the Yahoo Tuscan owners group for myself searching on the web. To be fair to TVR they do have the club magazines in reception but that means you have to visit the factory to see them.

'Trying to spot an opening I'd particularly love to work on a project with TVR'

Don't get too excited. I suspect that many, many people/agencies/companies have tried to get 'TVR' on their client lists, and accordingly have spent/wasted much time on speculative work hoping to be appreciated. Trouble is, TVR know that too and will take full advantage. I suspect, but don't know, that they might be complete ****'s to work with anyway.

I can't access any of it, not sure why. I get the old
website and then none of the links work from the main page, all I get is 'The page cannot be found' errors. I'm pretty sure I've got flash loaded but I'm running IE 5.5 - is this too old I wonder? Apart from this I can't see any evidence that the site has changed.

Maybe you have the old menu page stored in your cache. Have you tried deleting your temporary internet files?

A set-up like that must surely have a qa(quality assurance) department??

All my sites are qa'd 3-4 times before they go live and I get my arse kicked if there's so much as a comma out of place! and after all that there is still mistakes!

Jacob Neilsen's (usability guru) view on Flash...

Yes and no. I had reservations about switching to a Flash site (although I have an html site as well) for many of the reasons outlined.

In the end I decided that usability is just one part of a package - presumably Neilsen would rate Twin Kingdom Valley (text only adventure game on the Acorn Electron) over Quake III?

imho, Flash is a useful tool for providing an experience, rather than just imparting maximum information in the simplest fashion. I know that my site isn't 100% there yet, but I like to think it's part of the move towards making the most out of the incredible technology we have at our disposal, rather than sticking with something that works, but isn't really moving forwards

It's a royalty free CD I've got, but it costs, and comes with strict licence agreement I'm afraid! It's produced by Matinee in Reading, so give them a bell. Has about 40 long-ish loops to use, loads of clicks, wooshes etc etc too.

See what you mean - think I first picked up details of the TVRCC from Dave at Tower View, he had a little rack of leaflets on display.

I've also had some trouble getting in, only at work due to my clients firewalls. The designers don't seem to have grasped basic web technology - each browser throws out it's own faults, and if they are also behind a firewall then it ain't that easy.

If any of you are having trouble, make sure you have shockwave installed and go direct to

www.tvr.co.uk/intro.swf

This cuts out the "checking" guff at the start.

My views on the site? Much better with some caveats.

Such a shame they seemed to have scanned in the brochures for some of the content and "place" it in a shockwave window, that must have taken minutes. And the way the top sub menus lose focus if you hover away. It is definitely better but TVR are worth more than that.
