£500 premium eh. When the motoring press get hold of the car and it appears on the likes of Top Gear etc, there will be quite a few interested buyers who will certainly pay a premium to get on the launch edition list.
Just to clarify previous production numbers and profitability (from a trusted source)
"At their peak in 1998 the actual break even per week was 18 cars.
TVR were actually producing 38 per week so were very profitable which is one of the reasons PRW was able to take over £3 million out of the company in that year alone!
Production from 1992 to 1999 was always at a high level."
The new TVR uses a completely different manufacturing process though so build numbers to profitability ratio will I assume be different and fewer cars will need to be built daily to turn a profit/break even. Does anyone seriously think Les & team have not done the number crunching on this venture? I do remember TVR saying that they will not actually make any money from the LE car, it should break even and is being used to re-launch the brand. It's the follow up standard car without the carbon chassis and Cosworth engine upgrade etc that they hope to sell 1000-1500 of annually and make a profit.
Also agree that TVR need to update depositeers with timeline for production, what colour/wheel options etc will be and where we are in the bloody queue! My deposit was placed on day two and I am a patient man but....come on TVR...tell me what is going on!
Merry Xmas all!

email says they have been testing the Griffith at Dunsfold (Top Gear track) and it was driven by a Le Mans driver familiar with the Dunsfold circuit. Ben Collins perhaps? Also took it on the runway. No mention of lap times but gives the impression it performed well. The pro driver suggested some tweaking of of the rear suspension dampers and final drive ratio etc.
Would love to know what sort of lap times they were getting....!

That side exit exhaust does it no favours on the audio front, particularly when its on the other side.
F1 created a noise faux pas, seems like TVR are heading the same way.
I agree, it sounds like a race tuned MGB. F1 created a noise faux pas, seems like TVR are heading the same way.
p.s. Monkeylegend the exhaust exits on both sides of the car which is why you're only hearing a four not a V8.
remember also that the TVR released clip was probably recorded on someone smart phone so sound quality wont be all that.

Harsh but fair....
I like the car, but they *really* should look at addressing the whole gormless smiley face. It’s not like it’d be a huge job for them to reprofile the front clip to suit.
Oh, and for the love of god, ditch the black wheels and lets see it with a nice set of silver or anthracite wheels. Black wheels just look cack, especially in photos.
Been watching The Grand Tour on Amazon and on conversation street they show pics of coming soon new cars and discuss. So far they have shown the new Aston Vantage, new Lambo, new Z4 and Supra. As for the new TVR Griffith.....absolutely nothing. Maybe todays episode?
Come on TVR, what are your PR people doing? Have you contacted Grand Tour and they are ignoring the car or have you not bothered?
Many people I know think TVR went bust in the last decade and are no more.

a line from latest email from TVR....sounds interesting!
We will be organising additional depositor only events also, details of which will be communicated by separate mailing once confirmed and there will be another update on progress delivered to you later this month.
Does this mean we will actually see the car in action, get a closer look and even sit in the thing? I do hope so....

Yep, you are talking to a Mercedes owner so I get that, wouldn’t be without mine.
Having just come back from a 120 mile fun drive today in my Chim with similar power to weight ratio as the new griff, I can tell you that it was great fun but put a little finesse in there and keep the same sort of recipe and I could definitely go for that.
your Chim has 420bhp? blimey, what engine have you got?Having just come back from a 120 mile fun drive today in my Chim with similar power to weight ratio as the new griff, I can tell you that it was great fun but put a little finesse in there and keep the same sort of recipe and I could definitely go for that.

I think he was drunk when he was posting about it being a loss leader. I think it’s going to be hard enough selling a £90,000 car from a new manufacturer let alone a more expensive one.
My view is that new tvr should have started with a cheaper more interesting looking car, to prove reliability and build up the brand again before entering an already packed segment of the market full of established prestigious brands.
I know people on here might buy a new tvr because they love tvr but if you’re not a tvr fan, £90,000 gets you some very good sports cars right now.
TVR has sold all 500 of the LE deposits and is now building a reserve list. Thats without the car even being widely known to the public or driven by anyone. Unless you are predicting that a large chunk of the depositeers are going to withdraw? So selling a £90k from a "new" manufacturer hasnt actually been that hard? My view is that new tvr should have started with a cheaper more interesting looking car, to prove reliability and build up the brand again before entering an already packed segment of the market full of established prestigious brands.

I think when the car is fully exposed to the general public and seen on shows like Top Gear and drives round as fast as sports cars costing £30-40K more then there will be even more demand for the new Griffith. £90k may well look like very good value!

Not sure, this is going to be extremely hard to figure out. Not necessarily for TVR, but for the entire industry with their -chains and jit-production. Hope transition phase will ensure everything will be alright.
From what I have read the UK will not be seeking any divergence from EU regulations on the automotive industry. Why would they? Things like cars need to be built to the same standard world wide so UK will be happy to agree not to diverge from what are effectively world wide regulations. Now vacuum cleaners on the other hand.....
Well that about wraps it up for the moment, but in closing I can tell you that we have some blockbusting news just around the corner – we can’t share it just yet, but there will be more to come on the subject in a few short weeks’ time – we hope you’ll be as excited as we are!
That Les is such a tease....!!!

I think you’ve got time to try a 997 for a couple of years before the Griffith is in numbers to remove the waiting list or see used examples.
This is what I’ve done. Being common place hasn’t hurt 993 values!
993s are the last of the air cooled 911 and not exactly common place. I had a 997 and when it came to selling had zero interest for a long time. The modern 911s are just every where and will always fall in value unless they are the special limited numbers ones like GT3 etc. My 997 was ok, the steering feel was one of the best of any car I have driven but in most other aspects it was good but I didnt fall in love with it. Dont think I will ever buy a water cooled Porsche. Had a Cayman S too and that was also a nice car but nothing special. This is what I’ve done. Being common place hasn’t hurt 993 values!
